A new way to review

Can we send you PDFs for review? Yahoo mail doesn't accept attachments greater than 2 MB. Do you have an alternate address?

I am told my mail server will be available sometime in the near future (i.e. this week). When it is I will most likely use for.review@hugeogre.com for my inbound emails with large attachments. In the meantime you could probably send stuff to eric.price@dragonscalecounters.com. I'll go tell him now so he won't be confused when stuff shows up in his inbox from people he doesn't know... lol

This looks like as good a guidline as any I've seen for reviews. I think that in general numerical scores only give a patina of "objectivity" to the subjective reviews, though. And I really don't trust them, especially in the absence of comments in the body of the review.

Just like any other game, you can cut the arbitrary mechanics of your review in any number of ways and some people will like it and others won't.

Cheers

As you may already know, I only put so much stock in a one-dimentional rating. Sure, it might give you a general idea of quality, but only very general. In the end, it is the sum of largely subjective ratings with rather subjective weights applied. After all, for one person, ideas might be the most important part of a substance, while another might more heavily weight presentation, density of material, rules use, or some other criteria. And who is right or wrong? Not necessarily any of them. A well communicated review will go further to define if a product is right for you than a one dimentional score could ever hope to.

At any rate, there are specific qualities that I tend to identify when deciding what rating to give a review. The factors I typical consider are: value for content delivered, presentation, system fidelity, utility, and ideas. But again, some of these qualities may be more or less important to the reader, thus the reason why you should read the review.
