A nice followup to Chris Dias' letter to WotC

I just caught this today and as I started another thread on the first letter, I should also draw some attention to the heartwarming followup.

Chris's appeal caught the ears of an interested party and produced results; just not the results he was perhaps first envisioning. :)

Note: Those posting, please no sniping. We did that once.

I read that too. Vic's a great guy, and Paizo's a great company. I wish I liked their core product more. Ah well, they still get more of my money each month than WotC (I subscribe to their AP's and DDI) despite me not playing PF.

I think it is dishonest and not that logical that he blames forum "reactionaries" for Wotc's unresponsiveness while showcasing the fact that Paizo responded.

I think this shows the difference between Paizo and Wizards from a philosophical perspective. I think Wizards, having being burned by bad or questionable content for third party books in 3.5 (Hello, Tomb of Erotic Fantasy), I think the philosophy for Wizards is, "We are going to go it alone, and we will do everything we can to maintain a solid integrity and protecting our product from piracy."

Meanwhile, Paizo seeing the same bad results takes the tact of, "Ok, we are going to be more 'proactive' and help, encourage, and even advise what should and should not go into a third party book. And maybe that way, the better the third party products are, the better we will have people clamouring for our products. And if we price it right, it'll make any piracy problems a minor problem."

And I think you're seeing the fruits of both philosophies. I actually think both can be good, but I think Wizards is just not prepared for the difficulties they are having to going it alone. And Paizo is probably, as tvtropes would call it, Crazy Prepared.

I love happy endings. :)

Admittedly, it wasn't what Chris Dias was hoping for, but it was the most likely result - both in terms of WotC's silence and Paizo magnanimity. I really hope this is the start of Amethyst Pathfinder!

That's not what the post says...

"It’s unlikely that WOTC would be willing to sift through the conflict to see the legitimate concerns their fans and 3rd party companies have."

The post doesn't blame WOTC's silence on the vitrolic posts. I simply wagered they were unlikely to read through the hundreds of posts to find the few that actually had a point.

How is that any different?

Though Mr. Dias does mention that the vitriol was largely on these boards - WotC could have avoided any such train wreck by looking at the original site. :erm:

I hope WotC does reply, even if the answer is 'no'.

There used to be The Rouse, who actually made noises on these very forums, now, WotC is largely silent, even on their own boards.

Paizo will even argue with people! (Hey, disagreement is at least a response, eh?) I didn't agree with the Rouse all the time, but getting a reaction was good.

In the lack of information confabulation can take place. Sometimes the confabulation is accurate, sometimes less so, but trying to guess what is going through the minds of WotC's upper management is like trying to grab soup.
