A nice followup to Chris Dias' letter to WotC

Though Mr. Dias does mention that the vitriol was largely on these boards - WotC could have avoided any such train wreck by looking at the original site. :erm:

I hope WotC does reply, even if the answer is 'no'.

There used to be The Rouse, who actually made noises on these very forums, now, WotC is largely silent, even on their own boards.

In the lack of information confabulation can take place. Sometimes the confabulation is accurate, sometimes less so, but trying to guess what is going through the minds of WotC's upper management is like trying to grab soup.

Rouse and Lidda were both frequent posters on Enworld. Both have departed the company, a damned shame if you ask me. I had talked with them both in the past. Rouse posted both on WOTC's forums and EnWorld's. I think this trend of distancing themselves from other sites is unwise, but that's just my opinion. If I hadn't kept up with traffic regarding Amethyst on RPG.net, I wouldn't have met my latest editor. I wouldn't have the hundreds of playtesters for Ultramodern4. I think it's important to have a community presence...plus I also have low self-esteem, so the compliments are nice to. :)

Paizo will even argue with people! (Hey, disagreement is at least a response, eh?) I didn't agree with the Rouse all the time, but getting a reaction was good.

Well, I think expecting any reaction from WOTC, even a "no thanks", is... well, naive is the only word I think applies.

WOTC never actually served as a booster for 3rd party d20 content in the early days of the OGL, and that was a completely different company in terms of 3rd party supportiveness.

What support/spotlight there was for 3rd party books in the WOTC days all came from Polyhedron, which was run by, wait for it, Erik Mona.

So this difference of opinion between WOTC and Paizo is nothing new, and expecting the WOTC of today to be more receptive than the WOTC of Ruan Dancey is, again, naive imo.

Your assuming the WOTC creature even gives a poop enough to read these forums anymore. I assume they don't.

Or it may be that they are too busy bailing water on their own sinking ship to worry about what gamers think. At least in my area, I know the proprietor of the Hobby shop i go to said 4E isn't selling as good as their main competitor. (Pathfinder).

BREEEEP BREEEEP.......ABANDON SHIP!!! ABANDON SHIP!!!

Or to quote the great king Denethor, "FLEEEEE.....FLEE FOR YOUR LIVES!"

Paizo allows the 3pp because it has to. It’s the whole point of the OGL. Paizo couldn’t lock anything down if it wanted to. They are not giving some great gift to the world.

Paizo doesn't have to make the Pathfinder-compatible logo available. And they could lock that down any time they wanted, at least, insofar as WotC can.

You're arguing a point I never made. Paizo can act as welcoming as possible and pretend they are doing some great service; when the fact remains that they are not doing any service. They can't stop anyone from creating content, unless someone is creating content that is specific to one of the Pathfinder/Golarion products.

Given that Mike Mearls has responded to folks on these forums, and on therpgsite, I assume he and other WOTC staffers *do* read them, yes.

But that doesn't mean they have unlimited freedom to enact policy, especially one that runs 180 degrees in the direction of what seems to be their established policy of the moment.
