A Peek Inside the Mongoose

MongooseMatt

First Post
Hi guys,

Lots of exciting things going on at the moment - it is probably a good time to update you on at least a few of the things we are up to behind the scenes!

RuneQuest
This is the big one for Mongoose RPGs this year. The main rulebook has been laid to rest and is at print right now, with the Companion and Monsters books hot on its heels. We have also prepared the Open Content SRD and will be sending it to developers and publishers over the next week or so - the rest of you will be able to get your mitts on both the SRD and the main rulebook by the beginning of August at the latest (we will also have copies at our next Open Day, at Gen Con and Continuum).

Glorantha books are currently in production, and work is about to start on the second official setting for RuneQuest - Lankhmar!

Flaming Cobra
We are just confirming the last details with the first partners to sign up for this project, but Flaming Cobra will be coming to your stores later this year, a new imprint designed to bring you the very best of indy and PDF RPGs. We have already lined up Crafty Games (the new guys behind Spycraft), Silven Publishing, Eternity Publishing (The Immortals Handbook), a new RPG for this year (Nephandum) and another for next year - Cthulhutech! We are currently talking to a number of other potential partners and encourage anyone looking into breaking into RPG publishing to drop us a line. While you will have to meet our exacting standards, you will also find the deal we offer extremely reasonable.

Starship Troopers
Lots and lots going on for SST! The Forth are pretty much done - we are just waiting for the last sculpts to be done, then it is off to the painting table, and then on to your screens for a preview shortly before release. The rules are pretty much done, and the general consensus among playtesters seems to be that the Forth are Most Cool. There are a few twists in their background that you might not expect, and they play like no other army featured in the game yet.

That done, work has also started on Essential Updates 2007. Every year, we will produce one book for both CTA and SST that contains all the important updates you need to know to stay current with the rules. Essential Updates 2007 already contains some additions to existing army lists (from the small, like WASP Packs for Pathfinder officers, to the large - the Goshawk Marauder, with a huge laser strapped to its back!), guides to tactics, some revised rules for cover, explanations on how to take advantage of tunnelling, and some new bakcground material that will get you fired up about each individual army! There will also be some new army lists, including a new leader for Skinnies, and some interesting variants on MI platoons - though they might not be quite what you expect!

Preliminary work has also started on races 5 and 6 for SST - codenamed The Coven and Species 472. No details yet but, as always, they will play very differently from anything you have seen so far.

Judge Dredd
We are still waiting on the confirmation of the new movies for JD but, in the interim, a new game based in Mega-City One will be coming out next year - Block War! Based on the recent article in S&P, and using the SST rules as a foundation, Block War will be the ultimate urban nightmare!

Babylon 5 RPG
The second edition of B5 has got off to a flying start, and is being supported by some very special titles - in the works we have the notorious IPX book, a new location called Freedom Station, something about running Bounty Hunters and oodles more. As a special mention, keep your eyes out for The Final Flight of Santiago next month - even if you are not a fan of B5, this is an incredible scenario, penned by Gareth Hanrahan. It is probably the best single shot scenario we have ever released!

Conan RPG
We now have the manuscript for Hyborian Empires, which allows you to conquor entire kingdoms, play politics and war with your neighbours. Hyboria being what it is, you could well find yourself king of Nemedia, Stygia or even Aquilonia! As for future Conan books, Vincent Darlage has been locking himself away in dark rooms, the occasional gnashing of teeth and anguished scream the only sign that he is working on something very, very special for Conan. . .

Age of Conan
As for the miniatures game, we take slow steps, ensuring that we deliver the very best quality in terms of gameplay and miniatures next year. Anyone interested in sneak peeks would be well served by attending our next Open Day. . .

B5: Armageddon
This is the hot update for A Call to Arms this year, and there are too many cool things inside to list them all! However, I can say that as well as some very frightening ships, it unifies the fleet lists (no more campaign/tournament split), breaks the EA into three eras, seriously boosts the Vorlons and Shadows and, oh, oodles more! However, we suffered a few collapsed moulds with some of the Armageddon ships, which has delayed the project by a few weeks. Expect to see it at the end of August.

Advanced CTA?
Nothing confirmed yet, but we have been knocking around a few thoughts on doing an 'advanced' CTA, based on just one or two ships on each side (you might remember, we once said there were three potential space games in B5, fleet, ship and fighter). The term B5 Wars 3rd Edition has also been heard but, again, nothing has been locked down yet. Don't expect to see anything of this project for a couple of years at least.

War Without End
This will be out sooner, but will likely be sometime in 2007. We have moved this game from a simple 'tank bash' to a full blown combined arms concept. Expect sweet things :)

Victory at Sea
From its humble beginnings as an article in S&P, this game has been thundering along in development, ably assisted by the Salty Seadogs, a crack playtesting team dedicated to the very best in World War II naval gaming! This will be released, with a full counter set (miniatures soon to follow) in November. Sinking the Prinz Eugen will never be so much fun!

Miniatures Production
It is probably worth my lingering on this for a moment. We have expanded the staff working in miniatures production (I am told the facility is now working around the clock), re-jigged procedures and are starting to use a slightly different metal. What this all means is that you'll be getting better models and there will be far fewer packing errors. Expect to see the benefits from now onwards.

As for sculpting, we have instituted some new procedures for acceptance - expect to see the difference from, well, pretty much now :)

Lone Wolf
And you thought we had forgotten you LW fans :) You'll be happy to know we have just received the full manuscript for a new LW supplement. No, we don't have a release date yet, and it will be a little while off, but progress has been made!

Lankhmar for RuneQuest? Wow, first time I hear of that :)! I'm curious what you will be doing with it.

But first let's see how RuneQuest itself and Glorantha will turn out :).
