As for apologies being for the weak, it takes a strong man to admit when he's wrong. Most cultures do have mechanisms for apologies.

Of course, if we were only driven by desire for vengeance and by the death of our enemies, I doubt we would have survived the Cold War. (In which case, I doubt we would be having this conversation.)
