A question to the Robotech fans concerning the Zentradi Bombardment

That continuity and technical accuracy are not the primary concern of anime.

Also, take into consideration that the three stories which make up the Robotech Saga (Macross, Masters, and Invid) were originaly not connected. IIRC, These were three totaly unrelated series in japan, which were "woven" together when ported over to the US. Considering this, I think they did a amazing job at creating a sence of continuity.

Let us also assume that, as stated above, the fire was concentrated on major population centers and military targets.

However, if the attack was in the colossal range that I first credited it, then the blasted, cratered, and empty desert I see around New Detroit would make sense.

What is your take on this, then?
You forgot what you yourself posited.

Many ships concentrated on Detroit, and vaporized it.

Makes sense to me.

And one other question:
As I remember, they showed all the 4 million ships hitting the earth from one direction.
How could they hit all locations on the earth with one masive bombardment unless they were completely circling the earth, as I don't remember seeing them doing?

Unfortunatly vaporizing Detroit would've taken Windsor with it. Guess I'll have to find a new place to live. I wonder if they're hiring in Toronto.
