Page 8 - Half page long - Male human person of color, an officer on a starship, standing before a large viewport, looking out. There's a space station in view, orbiting a planet. Both station and planet are close, so you can't see the whole of either of them. Avoid making the officer's clothing too Star Trek.
Page 12 - Quarter page - Landcape looking over the terrain of an alien world. In the distance there are massive building possible only with advanced technology. Perhaps a starship coming in to land or leaving.

Page 20 - Half page long - A Felan and an android have climbed up above the notice of a military patrol foot patrol. They're holding their breath (metaphorically speaking in the android's case) that the patrol doesn't look up. It isn't an easy perch to keep and it took some skill to get up there and stay up there.

Human - Psi Cop (Think Babylon 5, without lifting their uniform look. Consultant to police and Military on regular basis.)
Ogron - Warrior
Spartan - Bounty Hunter
Venetian - Assassin
Felan - Trader/Merchant
Android - Scientist. Again, doesn't have to look "female", but it can.
Borian - Starship Mechanic
Note: To get more milage out of the art, in the chapter covering careers we could pepper it with small clips of the characters painted up for the race chart. A few of them will also be useful for at the end of the book with the sample characters. Namely Ogron Star Marine, Femal Psi-cop, Venetian Assassin and Human Street Thug.
page 35 - Quarter Page - A human teenage traveler striding through a busy spaceport, having a look around. Be creative with the aliens in the spaceport, beyond the listed races profiled, letting people know this is a big universe with a lot of strange beings and creatures. This traveler's got well-worn luggage and perhaps a small service droid. You can tell he's been a nomad amongst the stars his whole life. He is curious, but is accustomed to traveling through strange places and always knows where he is, just by looking at the stars.
page 39 - Quarter page - Human female (person of color - artist's choice on ethnicity) smuggler supervises an Ogron hefting some high tech looking crates of illegal goods under the floor plates of their starship. The Ogron looks like he's also the lethal brute who will keep any client from getting any stupid ideas about cheating these rogues out of their fee.
page 45 - Half page wide - Human detective is looking over a crime scene. Other police officers of mixed species and a droid are securing the crime scene
page 46 - Quarter page - A team of Spartan (male and female) Star Marines board a hostile starship. You can't see who they're after, but there's weapons fire glancing off armor and the hatch around them.
page 53 - Quarter page - A Venetian female doctor looks up at the glowing screen of a computer showing a scan of a patient and a scroll of data along the side.
page 59 - Quarter page - A Borian engineer busy at work in the guts of a starship. He's got his tool kit with him and there are parts around him.
page 63 - Half page wide - A colorfully dressed Felan merchant showing off a bunch of various service droids for sale. Perhaps a shopper slowing down to look as passing by.
page 67 - Quarter page - A Spartan and a Ogron face off in close quarters combat. The Orgon may be a foot taller than the Spartan, but that's no guarantee in this fight.
page 72 - Quarter page - A police officer passes information on the sly to a contact who looks a little shady. Maybe it's for money, maybe it's an old loyalty from childhood. Or maybe it's both. Artist's choice.
page 76 - Half page wide - Night scene. A consulting detective, human male, a bit scruffy and worn out looking is leaning on the edge of crusty recovery vat. There is a body in that vat - but not that the viewer can see. The detective is glaring at robot standing patiently nearby. The robot is called ADAM-19137 (possibly marked on his casing) and he has eyes that glow a soft yellow in the gloom. (Including snippet of fiction to help with inspiration.)
page 82 - Quarter page - Sniper (female human) takes aim, targeting system glowing. It isn't going to be an easy shot, but she has the skills to pull it off.
page 87 - Half page long - A three person away team stands high on a ledge looking over a vast cavern below. Warm lighting shows them - "Below them sprawled a city: houses, public buildings and places of worship from a dozen different eras of pre-20th century human history, looking as perfect as the day they’d been built. A miniature sun burned overhead, flooding the place with warmth and rich light." (include snippet of fiction for artist depicting scene)
page 93 - Quarter page - Racer pilot Melinda Ravenwood at the bar, raging to anyone who will listen over sabotage to her rocket on the eve of a big race "was unmistakably a racer pilot. Even if her deep blue flying leathers and the distinctive wind-burn tan of a pilot who braved the solar winds in a lightly-shielded vessel weren’t a give-away, this was Titan, on the eve of the Titan Grand Circuit, the solar system’s most prestigious rocket race, with Saturn’s rings and moons as its race-track." A Borian tends bar with a look on his face like he's heard it all. Bottles of exotic drinks line the wall behind him.
page 97 - Quarter page - Inside a treatment center, a Venetian medic operates a handheld scanner an Ogron warrior seated nearby, who's likely doing her best to look stoic despite her injuries. Pieces of combat armor are set aside for treating the wounds.
page 104 - Quarter page - Bridge view of a pilot maneuvering his ship into the docking bay of a nearby space station.
page 112 - Half page wide - A spartan warrior enthusiastically lays down coverfire as comrades move to a better position in a battle.
page 115 - Quarter page - Crossfire. A female Borian is crouched down in the protection of some junk parts or perhaps a large collapsed droid. Weapons fire is pinging off various surfaces. She's caught in the crossfire without any safe place to bolt and none too pleased about being in this situation. She was probably in the middle of fixing something when all hell broke loose.
page 120 - Quarter page - A Venetian hastily helps tie off the wound of a companion. This is emergency first aid, to hold over until better help can be reached. Make up a unique alien if you want for the wounded - whatever strikes your fancy.
page 124 - Half page wide - “Have I mentioned there’s no way in hell this is gonna work?” Isaiah said.
“You have, Ike. It’s become sort of a constant background noise. Like birdsong, or the gentle fall of rain.” Rafe kept his binocs trained on on the gleaming sky-flier speeding toward the rendezvous point. Although he couldn’t make out the passengers yet, he had a decent idea what to expect: a pilot, four or five deeply unreasonable and heavily-armed goons, and—of course—Gentleman Jim.
He lowered the binocs and turned. “We all ready back here?”
page 126 - Quarter page - An Ogron captain sitting in his command chair on the bridge. Ogrons build solid, heavily armored ships that don't even try to be subtle or pretty. His chair and the glimse of the bridge behind him reflect that. Lights and attitude indicate going into combat.
page 137 - Quarter page - navy crewman buckled into the gunner seat of a starship. Targeting plans glow in front of him and he's gripping the trigger and maneuvering controls, preparing to fire.
page 137 - Quarter page - Hex grid map firing weapons replacing existing one.
page 138 - Quarter page - Hex grid map exploding ships replacing existing one.
page 139 - Quarter page - A Spartan suited up for combat braces against the wall of the starship he's on. They're taking fire and it just blew out a secton of the hull nearby. The section has just sealled off, but he's peppered with minor wounds along one side and his armor is scuffed/dinged.
page 144 - Half page wide - A view of an open air marketplace. A hot sun beats down and the shade under the venders' canopies and rooves invite. All sorts of things for sale and all sorts of aliens doing the buying and selling. Feel free to be creative with making up alien races and unique androids.
page 149 - Quarter page - A venetian woman who looks something like a warrior monk has drawn her laser sword and is holding it in a defensive stance, ready to take on attackers. The laser sword is very similar to the light saber, but for the sake of avoiding infringement, make it look different.
page 153 - Quarter page - A weapon maker's shop display, various weapons to be seen for sale, but one in particular stands out, gleaming under a display's spotlight. Perhaps a hologram flickering nearby, listing all its fine qualities. Silhouette of a shopper looking on.
page 158 - Quarter page - Surrounded by shapes of advancing attackers, a human male (Asian ethnicity) starts to smile as a weapon materializes in his waiting hand. He's wearing a special glove that allows the weapon to be transported from a special chamber elsewhere. The fight isn't going to go down like his attackers expect.
page 161 - Quarter page - A Felan in leather armor. Dark fur and dark leather, he's quick, quiet and easy to disappear into the shadows when he wants to. Perched on the top of a wall, perhaps in the act of breaking into a private residence or facility.
page 169 - Quarter page - Airhover truck loaded with goods strapped down zooms toward the viewer, leaving a wake of dust/debris blown up.
page 175 - Quarter page - An Ogron tests his weight on a new artificial leg. Wearing shorts (or something equally brief) so one can see the workings of the artificial leg. "Artificial arms and legs interface directly with nerves and work exactly like a regular limb – albeit stronger and faster." The leg hasn't been skinned yet to make it match with the rest of the Ogron's body. A medic watches nearby with a hand-held medical device, monitoring the new limb's response.
page 180 - Quarter page - A Venetian whisks an invisibilty cloak up around himself, half out of sight already. What can be seen of him is well dressed and equipped. Invisabilty cloaks are expensive, "refracting light and even thermal signatures, to render the wearer completely invisible. The effect is so potent that not even the faint shimmer of usual cloaking technology is present. The wearer can stand in direct line of sight of a viewer without being seen (although olfactory and auditory senses work as normal)"
page 184 - Half page long - A view of an orbital shipyard. One partially built starship is within view, decks and beams exposed.
page 192 - Quarter page - An android welds two starship hull panels together, the seam glowing.
page 197 - Quarter page - A Borian female and an assistant work on getting their ship's engine back in repair. This isn't the best of ships or new, so there are signs of previous patches and quick fixes.
page 203 - Quarter page - Close shot of weapons fire exploding against a ship's deflector shields, leaving the hull beyond untouched.
page 208 - Quarter page - a bank of three hull-mounted weapons fire off at an unseen target. Composition note: banked weapons have the same firing arc, so they can't be pointed in different directions.
page 214 - Quarter page - a view of a luxury starship suite. A VIP guest lounges, attended by a service droid.
page 218 - Half page wide - the crew of a small merchant ship steps down the ramp to discover there are armed guards waiting for them, and an officious banker holding up the seizure notice. They haven't been making their mortgage payments. Their ship is being repoed! Show a mix of races and ethnicity.
page 221 - Quarter page - an adolecent Venetian boy discovers his psychic talent by incapacitating a pirate that has boarded the starship he is traveling on. The pirate is buckled over, clutching his head in pain, weapon dropped.
page 226 - Quarter page - Human female (dark skinned person of color, African or Indian heritage) uses her psionic abilities to channel an electrokinetic blast. It's a controlled streak of lighting that forks several feet from her.
page 230 - Quarter page - Human male, a Psi-cop has slipped up behind a guard on duty and uses the psionic ablity of Suggestion to convince the guard he needs to go check on an imagined problem.
page 232 - Perhaps insert the Dragon from the kickstarter art to be the Fury Dragon described in the clip of fiction.
page 235 - Quarter page - A big grizzly bear rising on his hind legs in an agressive posture, roaring. Looks like a standard Earth grizzly bear, nothing sci-fi about it. Please put the creature on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 236 - Quarter page - A wolf pausing on a rise to survey his territory. Looks like a standard Earth wolf, nothing sci-fi about it. Can be grey through brown, black or white. Please put the creature on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 237 - Quarter page - Assault Droid, Havoc Class. The Havoc is a formidable opponent. Nearly 15 feet tall, bipedal, and "made of solid duranium, the droid wields an integrated pulse cannon on one arm and a grenade launcher on the other. Specialist targeting software ensures that ranged fire is always accurate." It is a non-sentient mechanoid. You can use mecha for reference, but keep it from looking too anime. The more it looks like it can function without defying the laws of physics, the better. Please put the figure on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 238 - Quarter page - A bounty hunter by the name of Giles Sans Pitie. He's a bounty hunter, dressed in riot armor, armed with a high quality laser rifle but prefers to kill people with his steel hand (but is not stupid enough to not use his laser rifle when necessary). It is his left hand that is steel, and well polished. Please put the figure on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 239 - Quarter page - A Gobber is a small alien standing around 3.5' tall, around 70 lbs. They are scrawny in frame, but nimble and quick, with exceptional hearing -enlarged ears would work , think lanky little goblins brought forward into the sci-fi era. Favors shortswords or a blaster. Only confident when moving in packs, they are cruel and sadistic when they think they have the upper hand. They try to use their climbing skills as much as possible to gain the advantage and overwhelm their targets with a swarm. Please put the figure on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 240 - use Psi-cop from race lineup.
page 241 - Quarter page - A security officer, human male. These officers include police, private security and some types of soldiers. Typically wears riot gear and equipped to deal with street crimes. Carries a stun baton and laser rifle. Professional and orderly in appearance. Please put the figure on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 242 - Quarter page - A non-sentient mechaniod that is stationary mounted on a tripod. Usually takes the form of a pulse cannon, but they can vary in appearance. Behavior is usually programmed and fires on the closest target not tagged as an ally. Please put the mechanoid on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 243 - Quarter page - use Monsterous Spider from art preview on website.
page 244 - Quarter page - use Ogron Star Marine from race lineup.
page 245 - Quarter page - use Street thug (human male) from race lineup.
page 246 - Quarter page - A Tyrannosaurus Rex. The T-Rex hails from Earth. Like most dinosaurs, the creature was extinct for millions of years following the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event, but cloning technology allowed it to be reconstructed, bred, and exported in the 22nd century. The monstrous dinosaur can now be found on many worlds, both wild and in zoos. Please put the creature on its own layer. A simple background is fine and layout may decide to isolate the figure without a background.
page 247 - Quarter page - use the Venetian assassin from the race lineup.
page 254 - Quarter page - A view of a club or lounge that hasn't opened yet for business. A service droid polishes the chrome on the edge of the bar. This is in a section covering environments and objects, so this takes the main focus.
page 258 - Quarter page - A Felan fights off some savage alien monster that's trying to catch him. The Felan is clinging to a rocky cliff, trying to shoot the creature and at least disable it long enough to climb higher and away from this thing. The alien monster sports bony armor, making it difficult to kill with a single shot.
page 263 - Quarter page - A heavily dressed and protected figure - hard to tell if it's human, venetian or spartan, it's so bundled up against the weather. Snow lays deep, making it difficult to walk, and a hard wind is blowing that snow right against the traveler, trying to find its way in past protective clothing. The figure is following a signal on a handheld device that glows in the gloomy scene.
page 268, 269 - Half Page long - Combine the two star charts into one composition. The Local Group is Part of the Virgo Supercluster, so perhaps the image could be of a space charting device sending up a hologram of one expanding out of the other, with labels.
page 275 - Quarter page - The curve of a large planet rising from below, in the distance two or three moons and perhaps an orbital station. The stretch of the stars behind them. This is from a section covering universe-building, so the environment is the focus.
page 280 - Quarter page - The image a new species glows on a large monitor. It is a sentient Saurian. She carries a spear and appears to be nomadic and unadvanced. On screen data runs alongside with the results of the scan. If you wanted to make the data readable, there is information like: Females only (self-reproducing), cold blooded, poison breath. Be creative with its appearance. It is in a section covering the design of new species and aside from the bits of info listed, it has no fixed style of appearance. It could have more than two arms, wings, etc. Whatever strikes your fancy.
page 285 - Quarter page - A starship navigator, red-haired human male, plots a course with a view of a star system up on his screen.
page 288 - insert away team image from kickstarter.
page 292 - Quarter page - A small team of mixed individuals have stepped off a shuttle in an alien environment. No sign of civilzation. They have an adventure ahead of them. Feel free to be creative with the environment, except no desert environments. We already have a couple desert/rocky environments.
page 295 - Quarter page - Redo solar system graphic.
page 298 - Quarter page - From a sample encounter called the Sulliman Brothers. There are five of them, all with curly hair, but with different shades of color. They are thieves and murderers, wanted by the law. The scene is the five of them aboard a small grounded ship that filthy inside and loaded with crates of their ill gotten gains. A couple of them lounge around while others dig through their new aquisitions. They're thugs and they look the part.
page 302 - Insert space dock image from kickstarter at end of sample adventure.
