A Riddle For Ye

Gin, is correct, as is the frog (I think, it's not my riddle).

Here's another

What work is it that the faster you work,
the longer it is before you're done,
and the slower you work,
the sooner you're finished?

Can't think of a specific answer, but I'm guessing it's some kind of work where you're building something (and thus if you work faster, the something you build will be longer when you're done for the day, but if you work too slow, you get fired).

Oh, as for the geomancer, according to dictionary.com a geomancer is a mathematician specializing in Geometry. I wonder what school they had to give up for that. ^_^

Would a gnome geometer be a thinker gnome? :D
As for the work riddle, the one think I can think of would be rest, but that's likely as wrong as my gnome answer.

Well, since you're the only one who attempted an answer for my gnome thing, I'll tell you. It was actually more of a bad joke than a riddle:

What do you call a Gnomish Geometer?

A Metrognome!

Hmm... No sir, I don't get it.

Do you know what a metronome is?! It's a device for the measuring of time. In ye olden days they were those triangular boxes found atop pianos and such. You remove the face, pull out the arm, and swing it. It ticks back and forth, back and forth.

Today, metronomes are more commonly small rectangular boxes powered by 9 volt batteries. You flick a switch and you hear a regular beat. Turn the dial to hasten or slow the beat.

Anyway, *I* thought the metronome (e.g., "metrognome") joke was funny, and because all those besides me would cease if I were to, me finding it humourous is all that matters.

I don't get how the "metro" part is derived from "a gnomish geometer."

"Metro" is akin to "metric". "Metric" is akin to numbers. Geometry is a math. Math uses numbers. Stop me if I'm going too fast for you.

Turning meat on a spit. The slower its turned, the faster it cooks. the faster its turned, the slower it cooks.

And as for this riddle, ill explain it for everyone who doesnt understand
A hundred and one (C and I in Roman Numerals)
by fifty divide, (L is 50, put it between the C and I)
And if a cipher (cipher means 0)
is rightly applied, (means to add it to the right side)
The answer is one from nine. (you get CLIO, one of the 9 Muses)

As for the one
Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it,
Five in the middle is seen;
First of all figures, the first of all letters,
Take up their stations between.
Join all together, and then you will bring
Before you the name of an eminent king.

D is 500 in roman numerals. so D is both the first and last leterl
V is 5, so its in the middle
The first of all figures is I, or 1, the first of all letters is of course, A.
Put them in there between the other letters, and you get DAVID. The ancient king of Israel.

This was just to clear up some for those who didnt seem to get them at first.

I started (actually, finished) a reply to this, but it came out sounding rather petty.

Suffice to say, I don't appreciate the attitude, still think that the joke could use a lot of work, and find major flaws in your logic above.
