A Shopping Trip

I'm planning to visit Melbourne tomorrow and pay a visit to Mind Games with a moderately large amount of money (in gamer terms. :))

The primary thing I want to pick up is the Shackled City HC. My friends would like me to run it, and the original Dungeon issues have... a few problems. It's had a few nice reviews, so I'll be putting down close to aus$100 to get it.

After that...
* Fiendish Codex II
* Frostfell Rift
* Ra
* Settlers of Catan Event Cards
* Settlers of Catan: Cities & Knights 5-6 player expansion
* Princes of Florence
* Die Macher
* Dunwich Horror
* Curse of the Dark Pharoah

That's assuming they're all in stock, of course. :)

Cheers!

Considering you have said in the past it is quite a trip for you, do you call ahead and reserve them?

What no minis?

No; if they're not available, I'll get something else. (Nothing on the list is a "must have").

No, no minis. I've got enough minis for most of my needs at present.

Cheers!

Merric - hold back $120 and save it for next month. Tide of Iron is on the way. For those who saw it last year at FFG's Gencon booth, this game and Marvel Heroes had us all salivating.

Hands down, Tide of Iron is the most anticipated boardgame of the year.

Fantasy Flight has an awesome demo movie about the game on their site here:

The session reports of those who got preview copies on BoardGameGeek are also very positive here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/22825

And for those who were wondering how cool Fantasy Flight's World Tank Museum game minis would look with a board game - Tide of Iron is at a perfect scale for them, too. Check out the pics: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/195011

I get paid again next month. :)

Well, I got back. I bought a few things.

All in Australian dollars:

$20... train fare down and back
$110... a lot of Lois McMaster Bujold books. (Falling Free; Cordelia's Honor; Young Miles; Miles, Mystery and Mayhem; and Miles Errant)
$95 - Shackled City adventure path
$39 - Fiendish Codex 2
$2 - The Lost City of Gaxmoor
$8 - Settlers of Catan Event Cards
$30 - Settlers of Catan: Cities & Knights 5-6 player expansion
$89 - Die Macher
$30 - Curse of the Dark Pharoah (Arkham horror expansion)
$60 - Dunwich Horror (AH expansion)
$60 - The Princes of Florence
$75 - Runebound 2nd edition
$7 - lunch

total: somewhere about aus$625 for the day. I can't do that often, but it was fun.

They'd sold out of Ra (pity; but it, like Power Grid, can wait). Not sure about where they keep Frostfell Rift, but it was only a minor wish, anyway.

I considered Marvel Super Heroes, but the box was a bit big once you considered everything else I was carrying. ;)

Tide of Iron: Hmm. I'm not sure. I'll consider it. A friend has Memoir '44, which I really, really like, and three of us have BattleLore. OTOH: Lots of Bits. My chief problem would be when would I play it - I'm far more likely for a game of its length want to play War of the Ring.

Gaxmoor: It was $2! I've actually know a few students at the school I work at are playing the thing, and I was curious. :)

Shackled City: Nice book. Very nice. Heavy. Just right to beat around the head of annoying players. I'll start running this in a couple of weeks. Nice to know that my plans have gone according to for once. :)

Cheers!

Merric, do you suffer from Monty Haul Syndrome? ;)

More seriously, glad the trip went well. I hope you have room to store it all! Me, I'm just trying to catch up on RPG purchases from last year (I'm well behind right now).

Heh. I'm a pack-rat. I want to have lots of stuff.

Storage space may be a problem. I need more bookshelves. My collection of novels is around 1,000 sci-fi/fantasy titles, I've got most of Wizards D&D releases for D&D plus a bunch of older edition stuff, and I'm working towards 40 (mostly Euro) boardgames.

I'm a little behind on RPG purchases, and quite a way behind on mini purchases. Too much of my money has been going on my car of late. This is the first time in a while I haven't been paying off a debt, so I got some games. :)

Cheers!

Ah, the advantages of not having a wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other asking why you are spending all your disposible income on your hobby! :D

Although I can't complain too much. My wife does put up with my roleplaying expenditure as long as I keep it to a reasonable level. ;)

Indeed. :) Not that I've spent so much at once in a long time... if at all.

Now, I'm just trying to find players for a game of Die Macher. (It takes 4+ hours, needs 4-5 players). Thankfully, the group for Shackled City is already there.

Cheers!
