many thanks.

actually, while we're at this, would ranger favored enemy damage be added before or after halving piercing damage? my dungeon master decided that, even if i cant score a crit on undead, my bonuses result from skill and specialized knowledge on my part, and still apply :D

incedentally, mighty bows allow you to use your STR bonus for attack, or somesuch?

Well, since your DM house-ruled that you could add your favored enemy damage, you'd better ask him when he wants you to add that damage.

By the rules, IIRC, you add the damage before you cut the damage in half, since (in the case of the mighty bow) the arrow might be coming faster, but it's still piercing damage that's being delivered.

Before. The bonus is still piercing damage, so it gets halved along with everything else.

No, only to damage. Check the last page of the Equipment chapter in the PH.

Get a +1 throwing and returning mace of disruption :D Seriously, throwing and returning weapon enhancements might be just the thing.

Or, you can ask your DM to use more zombies than skeletons so you have something to kill in the future. Skeletons are the only undead that have resistance to piercing.

By the rules, IIRC, you don't add the damage bonus at all. Favored enemy damage bonuses don't work with the undead.

There's a feat in Masters of the Wild called Supernatural Blow. It requires you to have a COUPE* as a Favored Enemy.

Basically, it allows you to roll extra dice whenever you score a critical hit on an enemy that is normally not vulnerable to critical hits. It also allows you to add your favored enemy ability to damage against a creature that is normally immune to it.

(Construct, Ooze, Undead, Plant or Elemental)

A DM in a previous campaign introduced a Blunt-headed Arrow. It had a -2 penalty to hit, and did 1d3 damage, but it was bludgeoning damage. If you have a mighty bow, lots of bow feats, and good strength, the drawbacks to this sort of arrow may not be so bad. Consider asking your DM about such a thing.

Undead as Favoured Enemy

Masters of the Wild also suggests a defensive variant of Favoured Enemy, applying the bonus to your AC, Hide and Move Silently, rather than to damage, Bluff and Sense Motive. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it worked (too lazy to check my books -- they're all the way across the other side of the room...)
