A Song of Fire and Ice pantheon?

Wasn't there an Issue of Dragon that covered Westeros a while back? I think it was Dragon 308 or 306. I know it was an even numbered one. *Checks his stuff*

Well, yes I have, but... uhh...
it seems to me that its called "a song of ice and fire" because it will eventually be a battle of the wights and cold ones vs. the followers or R'hellor, fire vs. ice. And despite Melissandra's obvious evil, i'm pretty sure she's going to end up serving a good purpose. CONJECTURE AHEAD: I'm pretty sure that Stanis' sword really is the sword weilded by R'hellor's champion, but that it isn't Stannis, it is Thoros of Myr who is his champion. And eventually, Thoros will gain posession of Lightbringer and stab it into Mellisandre's heart, as the original champion did to his wife, to "activate its power." Of course, Stannis doing this would also be cool, but...

Anyway, i'm under the impression that if the books ever degrade into a fight of good vs. evil, R'hellor is good (but served by evil clerics), and The Unnamed One is evil.
. Anyway, you could probbably call it a bad suggestion. I chalk it up to my lack of caffene. But given how little the books actually say of Rhellor, its kinda hard to figure out his domains, besides fire and maybe destruction.

My bad, it was Dragon 307. In any case I checked to see if the Seven had clerical domains listed. They don't. Nor do the Nameless gods of the north. But in any case druids probably work better for them.

Of course, the greatest thing about Martin's books is that there really are no bad guys, only really really dispicable people. So actually giving people outright "alignment domains" is probably pretty innapropriate considering the spirit of the world. Gar, I retract my suggestion of good as a domain spell for Rhellor.

Very true, Connor. A lack of real good vs evil is one of the nicest things about Martin's books, though I expect the Others will always be the unnatural evil.
If we're placing bets for who's supposed to be the champion of R'hlorr and the savior of Westeros, I'm for a Stark - probably Jon; possibly Bran. After all, the Starks are the ones who fight off the Others, and that seems to be the purpose of R'hllor's champion. But one of the best things about Martin's writing is that it's very difficult to predict what's going to happen. I really wasn't expecting the Red Wedding to happen, for example.

I don't think ANYONE was prepared for the Red Wedding, or the deaths of THREE kings. I did expect some problems with the Freys after what the Young Wolf did with that other girl. But still.

Man, I didn't expect the red wedding at all, although reading it a second time, i could kinda see it coming. there were a few warning signs. But the thing I think I like best about Martin is that when his characters speculate, they somehow seem to be asking the same questions I am. Like, when I'm worried about a particular thing, a few pages later, someone starts talking about it. Oh, and if we are going to take bets on the starks, I personally think that Jon is going to marry Daenreyes. It doesnt make any sense at all, but I hope it happens. And I'm also hoping that either Arya, Tyrion, or both become some of Dany's companions. Tyrion is just the coolest character in the series, and arya's starting to grow on me (i liked her better when she was getting trained by Syrio).

But about the champion of light. Regardless of who it is, they better stab Lightbringer throuh Mellissandre's chest. That would be almost as perfect a moment as Tywin's death.

Indeed, that and probably the fight with the Red Viper and the Mountain were my favorites in terms of revenge. I'm still waiting to see how Petyr gets his, cause you know the now undead Lady Stark is probably gunning for him after she kills the Frey clan.

re: Champion of light

My speculations on the identity of the reborn Azor Ahai:

I think its Daenerys. Melisandre said that the prophecy says the hero will be reborn amidst smoke and salt, and she interprets this as pointing to Dragonstone, but I think that the smoke and salt refers to the Daenerys's tears and Drogo's pyre, which Daenerys entered as wife of the dead Khal and exited as the Mother of Dragons. And even if Melisandre is right about the smoke and salt referring to Dragonstone, that is where Daenerys was born. Also, Melisandre kept trying to get Stannis to allow the use of his bastard nephew's blood to wake dragons from stone, whereas Daenerys already has woken dragons from stone
