Could you describe such a situation? Do both parties live or do both parties die? Usually, it's all or nothing.

You get XP for overcoming challenges - so the DM needs to determine if a draw is 'overcoming the challenge' anything else is down to guesswork

As to the results I'd either have the combatants withdraw or begin a round of diplomacy checks (with lots of circumstance modifiers) to see whether the formerly hostile situation has moved up to indifferent (or even friendly!)
