A subtle reminder from wizards.(or not so subtle)

Hi. This is another of our special free-to-all editions of my regular column. I’m talking about our Dungeons & Dragons Essentials products throughout this month and next. In case you haven’t checked out any of the previous columns, or even if you have, let me repeat myself for clarity’s sake:

The Essentials consist of 10 key products that will form the baseline experience for the roleplaying game moving forward.
</B>The Essentials are NOT a new game or a new edition.
The Essentials are NOT replacing the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual.</B>

The Essentials are providing a better framework and starting point for new players while also providing new options for existing players to add to their games.
The Essentials products work with all other Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game products, from Player’s Handbook to new products releasing in 2011 and beyond—just like all other D&D products we release.

Imagine that the Dungeons & Dragons game is a highway. Prior to the Essentials products, you entered the highway at 10th Avenue. With the Essentials products, we’ve constructed a new entry point, and you can now zip onto the roleplaying game highway at 1st Avenue. This provides a better experience for players new to the game, as well as giving existing players new class builds and options to play with.

Got this from the rogues essentials preview on the wizards site.

Well, it seems to me that no matter how many times WotC says:
  • The Essentials consist of 10 key products that will form the baseline experience for the roleplaying game moving forward.
  • The Essentials are NOT a new game or a new edition.
  • The Essentials are NOT replacing the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual.
  • The Essentials are providing a better framework and starting point for new players while also providing new options for existing players to add to their games.
  • The Essentials products work with all other Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game products, from Player’s Handbook to new products releasing in 2011 and beyond—just like all other D&D products we release.
rumors and assertions to the contrary keep cropping up.

It's almost as if people aren't paying attention when WotC says:
Or maybe they just don't believe it when WotC says:
So I guess that's the reason that WotC has to keep saying:
  • The Essentials consist of 10 key products that will form the baseline experience for the roleplaying game moving forward.
  • The Essentials are NOT a new game or a new edition.
  • The Essentials are NOT replacing the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, or Monster Manual.

well i posted it because its the first affirmation of them NOT replacing stuff from the PHB and other core books. Which would mean that the material from the PHB (et. all) will not be unsupported. Atleast thats what i took it to mean.

That, I believe, is the issue. And if that is indeed the issue, then the fact that WotC and others repeat it won't be helpful.
Working off memory, so most likely paraphrased:
"Well, John, if you repeat something often enough, people will come to believe it."
"Come on now, people aren't that stupid."
"Well, John, if you repeat something often enough, people will come to believe it."
"I really don't think that's possible."
"Well, John, if you repeat something often enough, people will come to believe it."
"That can't be right, can it?"
"Well, John, if you repeat something often enough, people will come to believe it."
"Are you sure?"
"Well, John, if you repeat something often enough, people will come to believe it."
"You know, I think I'm starting to believe that."

Actually it isn't the first affirmation of that.

Some of us paid attention before hand, which is why we aren't panicking now.

This is less an affirmation and more of a clue-by-four.
