A trial EN World news/reviews/articles iPhone app [now also ANDROID!]

I have to say that I'm finding twitter feeds much, much more useful than RSS for finding out what is happening on other sites that I'm interested in. I don't suppose RPG Bloggers and RPG Blog Alliance have twitter alerts to their blog entries which can be accessed via the app?

I agree, Twitter can be great for keeping up and getting news quickly. Both the sites do have twitter feeds as well.

For whatever reason, I can't get it to install. I go to the above site, and all I get is a screen with the ENWorld logo in the background, and a chat bubble asking me to push the button and install the app to my home page. Unfortunately, there is no button available.

And of course, as soon as I post the above, it works. I suspect that it may have been me moving the Safari button to out of the folder that I had it in to one of the pages. As soon as I did that, the adding it worked.

This thing is pretty cool, I just downloaded it and am exploring it's functions right now. I'm liking it and hope that it does stay around, seems to be pretty useful!

This stuff is tough. Not the apps themselves - just the hoops you have to jump through.

I'm working on two different native iPhone and Android apps (one like the one in this thread - news, articles; the other being a forum-based app).

Plus an EN World Facebook app, which should be cool for those who use Facebook.

The hassle is all in security certificates and dozens of variations in graphics (all of them have different specs) and a host of other little tedious hoops. But the result will hopefully be (assuming we go with full deployment of all):

  • iPhone News/Articles/Reviews app (the one already above)
  • Android version of same
  • iPhone and Android messageboard app. Better than Tapatalk.
  • Facebook app which shows the forums, news, makes it easy to share stuff, get updates in your newsfeed and stuff.

That's five different deployments, each of which is a major pain in the ass! Facebook is the biggest PITA, followed by Apple, followed by Android.

But it should all get us all modernized-up and stuff. We'll be, like, properly 21st century.
