[aargh!] 3.5 wierds out my old character!

I agree that you shouldn't be able to ban Divination as a Specialist (there are two in my game). My biggest excuse is Read Magic...

Read Magic shouldn't be a problem, just make the spellcraft roll instead. All that Read Magic does for most characters is make it so they automatically succeed.

The problem is in Detect Magic. That used to be in the Universal school and I believe they moved it to Divination.

Although it makes sense to have it a divination, it would seem strange to have a character that can manipulate magic but is unable to detect it.

I suspect even this could be worked around by summoning the correct creature.

My first thought would be, "DM? Can I revise? I got hosed!" If the DM sayeth so, your transmuter can find another specialty somehow.

It's not that big a deal as I'm in a different country from that campaign now, but I'm going home for a week in a couple of months and we're going to have at least one session.

That being said, if we're going to use the 3.5 rules when I return, then I'll need to change anyway, as I'd need to pick a second school. I'm gonna try to get him to let me change to necromancy and enchantment, as i have pretty much 2 spells from those whole lists.

I think I would feel a lot more sympathy if your character had been a diviner with banned school Transmutation. :D

If I'd been that silly, I'd feel sorry for me too!

Wow, again, the only thing I'm not happy with is the spell changes. My old character, Olive, is a transmuter with a banned school of conjuration. Whe's always been a teleport queen, and now... they're conjurations.

Bugger. :(
Your DM isn't being nice. When my wizards converted I let them rechoose their opposed schools.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to reason with him.
