Abandoned Battlestar

I'm sad. I've decided I have to give up on Battlestar Galactica.

Not for reasons of quality - I love the show. But there are only so many hours I have to watch TV, and only so much space on the TiVo. Every BSG from last seasons last two episodes through last week's were sitting there, taking up space and coming close to forcing us to delete other things early to keep them. Clearly, we were not in the mood to watch often enough to keep up with it.

So, tonight I let them go. I have no idea how last season ended, or what's happened this season. And I won't know any time soon. It had to be done, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it...

Heh. We've been watching on DVD, and we're up to the last two episodes of season 2 now.

... and knowing that we've got probably something like a year to wait for season 3 to be released...

Gah!

That's what happened with me, to a point.

Got a few built up on the PVR, tried to watch, and said, "You know, this is a well-written and well-realized series that depresses the crap out of me, and I have no interest in watching it."

Mind you, this was during a relatively stressful period in my life. Maybe now I've got the resources to really get into a bleak and depressing show.

Or maybe I'll just stick to the fluffy stuff.

But it's a really well-written and well-realized show. I respect it a lot, even if I do call it Battlestar Erotica because of the occasional gratuitous empty meaningless nekkidness.

For similar reasons I decided to not pick up any of the new CSI shows, Navy NCIS or the new Jericho. There is only so much you can watch.

A possibility in case of BSG might be to rent the DVDs if they become available and if there are less good shows that keep your interest.

That's my thought. During summers and other TV slack times I can catch up on DVDs and reruns, if I have the time.

The thing that irks me is that it really is one of the better quality shows on the list of things I like to watch. However, as noted above it can be a bit depressing. So, it calls for a rather particular mood for watching. If we aren't in that particular mood, we tend to pick other things first. And the BSG stack up...

So, wait for DVDs and particular moods, I guess...

On the flipside, I have plenty of time to watch and re-watch all the downloaded episodes (they're on my to-buy list and yes, I do buy the stuff I download).

Rules to be a student.

When I saw the subject title...my hearr sank hard. But after reading further...I understood.

Been there, done that. Didn't watch large sections of the first two seasons for exactly the same reason.

But now that I'm done with that part of my life and things are much better (mentally and emotionally), I'm finding that I really look forward to the show.

Hmm. I didn't get the depression factor... though maybe there's a difference to watching the first two seasons in two weeks, as opposed to a year...

There's a series of books that has that effect on me, though - David Feintuch's "Seafort Saga". I found them well-written, but depressing as hell!
