Aberrations or Deathknell?

Obscure

First Post
I'm strongly considering expanding my meagre minis collection (which consists of about 32 Harbinger minis). I use the DDMs almost exclusively for RPGing, not for the skirmish game, and the store I'm going to this weekend has very tempting prices on the Aberrations and Deathknell boosters.

Given this information, which boosters should I pick up: Aberrations, Deathknell, or a bit of both?

Personally, I liked Aberrations a lot more than Deathknell. The sculpt/paint quality was much better on average.

However, Deathknell does have a few nice classic critters, namely the Beholder, Death Knight, Large Blue Dragon, and the Mummy Lord. The rest is somewhat bleh, but check out the mini gallery on WotC's site and compare the two and see which one you like best.

Will do.

I should probably add that I'm only going to be picking up about 4 or 5 packs, so maybe what I really want to know is: which of the sets has the nicer looking/more interesting commons and uncommons?

Well, you should check out merric's site for full miniature details. http://www.3rdedition.org/merricb

But there's no reason not to grab both. It'll just lessen the chance you get duplicate commons.

I'd prolly go with 2 deathknell and 2 aberrations. Then I'd see what I got and go for one more of whichever looked like the better set so far.

Aberrations certainly beats Deathknell as far as Commons go; Uncommons are about tied, and Deathknell generally has better Rares (although there are a few jewels in Aberrations as well, namely the Green Dragon, Wyvern, Hook Horror, and Yuan-Ti Abomination).

Choices, choices, choices! I like the Aberrations I have (only about four boxes worth). I have yet to buy any Deathknell (my $$$ keeps wanting to go someplace else before I get the chance), but a friend has bought several boxes worth and some of them look quite cool.

Maybe do what the Jester suggested and get two of each and then decide from there.

Make you a better offer,

Buy a case of each. :p :)

I mean come on if your going to expand your base minis, try and get the whole set!!!

*would like everyone to know I play WITH minis in skirmish not with table top games.*

I'd go with the get boosters of both.

Here are the commons of Aberrations:

Hill Dwarf Warrior
Man-at-Arms
Mongrelfolk
Gnoll
Elf Warrior
Dekanter Goblin
Fiendish Dire Weasel
Gnoll Skeleton
Celestial Black Bear
Emerald Claw Soldier
Myconid Guard
Taer
Kobold Champion
Silent Wolf Goblin
Carrion Tribe Barbarian
Mountain Orc

and the Commons of Deathknell:

Celestial Dire Badger
Goblin Adept
Kruthik Hatchling
Ibixian
Kenku Sneak
Orc Savage
Timber Wolf
Skeletal Dwarf
Bullywug Thug
Giant Frog
Spellstiched Hobgoblin
Deathlock

Cheers!

(I would send this via email or private message, but neither is available for Obscure.)

If you're interested in buying a few dozen Commons from Aberrations and Deathknell and a few from earlier sets, send email to jeff dot wilder at gmail dot com.

I'll give them to you super cheap (say 15 cents each, plus a couple of bucks for postage). Otherwise I'll be donating them to an acquaintance of mine who teaches the skirmish game to new players. I'd sorta rather they get RPG use, honestly.
