Ability scores (especially for extraplanar monsters)

I was looking at the Creature Catalog conversion of the abiorach (rilmani) and I can't help feeling that the ability scores look a little low, at least if you compare them with the ones for the Rilmani in the Fiend Folio.

How does one go about guess/estimating ability scores for extraplanar monsters? I really didn't have much good idea to be honest.

There is no such thing as a right wayy to do it. However, there are a number of tables in some products, such as the MMII, tht give fitting ranges of ability scores. Another guideline might be the table for size increases in the MM.

However, as notably supernatural creatures, Outsiders do not really adhere to many natural laws, and might have very high ability scores for their size.

And finally, the conversions from the CC are older than the Fiend Folio in many cases, which should be the case for the abiorach.

right, and when we upgrade it to 3.5, i'll try (but not TOO hard) to make it more like the FF rilmani.

Thanks for the replies. I might try guessing my own values then (trying to compare with other extraplanar races - tanar'ri, eladrin, etc. - and also comparing with the Rilmani in FF).
