Yes, the troll would be the center of the explosion and the trees wouldn't count as walls.

Actually, in 1st edition, fire doesn't prevent regeneration. It's just that after having reduced the troll to negative HP you need to burn or corrode the body to kill it for good.

In 2nd edition the text is a bit ambiguous. You could either interpret your way or you could read it as "damage by fire or acid is not regenerated".

Which edition are you asking about?
