It comes with all the Basic 5e content.

It has useful customization options.

One can purchase supplemental books, like Tashas and Ravnica to unlock those features.

Just to also note: To make a DnDBeyond account you have to have either a Google or Apple account. As those are the only login/registration options they allow.

They have locked all One D&D content behind having a DnDBeyond account.

Looking at the new head of D&D is software based, pushing out a creative, and the earlier-this-year big head was from Microsoft, it looks like Senior Management is positions to push the DnDBeyond and VTT side heavily with the next iteration of D&D. If that's true, they want you to already have an account so subscribing/buying digitally is an easy next step.
