That's an idea, but I'm not really sure how that's significantly different than what I have in mind.
Well, you end up at the same place - so the difference is slight in that regard.
But there is a difference, imho, and that difference is that when you level every session each session ends up being about the leveling rather than about the adventure.
By planning the sessions as 'batches' of sessions at a fixed level with level bumps in between you avoid the excessive focus on leveling and allow the players to focus on what really matters.
