Action Point timing

There are a number of prestige paths that provide action point benefits that last until the end of your turn, or until your next turn.

Can you spend an action point at any point during a round? Or does it have to be after you have used all your normal actions?

For example, is this legal for a Shadow Assassin:

1. Move next to boss.
2. Spend Action Point to gain extra action (+4 attack bonus until start of next turn).
3. Standard action to attack (at +4).
4. Extra standard action to attack (at +4 again).

Just a little nit-picky clarification: You can use an action point at any time during your turn, not during the round.

That is "use the action point" as a free action. The action gained is used as a normal action.
