Actor Heath Ledger dead

I must say that I am among those who thought the headline was a joke in very poor taste. I still can't quite get my head around it.

Young healthy people should not die suddenly. He did not seem like the sort of person who would go this way. It should be noted he had a young child-best wishes to his family.

The Dark Knight may be difficult to watch, but I surely will try to appreciate it all the more now. Let's hope something is done to honor his memory in the movie.

I'm pretty sure they will do something considering that if they didn't the producer would find him/herself hated by a good portion of movie goers and the actor's guild.

From what I can tell from the news reports, it's not drugs. Yes, he took sleeping pills, but not your traditional "heroine-OD" type drugs. And at least one network is reporting that it was an accident and not suicide. One possible scenario is accidentally too many sleeping pills, vomits in sleep, doesn't wake up from choking, and dies.

Man, sleeping pills are so dangerous, yet I think few people appreciate just how much.

As much as I will lament the loss of such a talented young individual, I feel for his little girl the most.

I'm fairly certain that the filming on The Dark Knight is done and they're in the post production and editing stage now. So hopefully this one last movie will be a masterpiece to remember him by.

But am I the only one who thinks the role of Joker is a cursed role given all the accidents and problems associated with it in the previous movies and the old 60s series?

What do you mean? Cesar Romero (TV series) lived a ways past the series, and Jack Nicholson is alive and well.

Man, this sucks. I may not have seen everything he's been in, but I liked what I saw, particularly Knight's Tale, and was definitely looking forward to his take on the Joker in Dark Knight.

You're not the only one.

I'm hoping it's accidental death and not suicide. From what I've read on articles linked to on one message board, he was having some hefty sleeping issues (at one point averaging less than 2 hours a night) and was on medication to help with that.

Regardless, condolences to his family (particularly the two-year old little girl that will never get to know her daddy) and god speed to man who's career was just getting started.

This is very sad news indeed. I have no idea what impact it will have upon the new Batman movie - if all the scenes and pickups were done for it or not. I suppose these days they can CGI it if need be - but Ledger as the Joker was a big part of that movie.

I've read that all of his post work on Dark Knight was done so that he'd be ready for his next scheduled job, so that shouldn't be affected by this tragedy.

I hate it when someone this young and talented dies. Even more so when it appears that they've been a sensible, well-grounded person and it is seemingly random.

Yes, I thought the same thing when a news shot last night of Heath in Joker makeup seemed to evoke the image of Brandon in "The Crow". Brandon was also 28 when he died.

He was already in the middle of filming the new Terry Gilliam movie. They had finished London shooting and were scheduled to go to Vancouver.
