AD&D 2nd edition DM Screen placement on table.

Ok, I just got this screen from ebay, and I'm confused. Instead of your usual four panel pictures on side and charts on the other, this one is two flimsy cardboard pieces and a book that has the index of all the core rulebooks. One panel has 6 panels of charts on *each* side, and the other has 5 panels of charts and 1 picture panel.

Now how is this supposed to go on the table? I noticed a few duplicate charts on the opposing sides of the screen (like calculated Thac0s), but nothing is consistent. Here's my best guess.

I have that same screen. The way that I understand it is that the screen with the Outer Planes illustration is the "standard" screen, with the core stuff on it. The other one presents the "Player's Option" stuff (critical charts, knockdowns, psionic combat, etc). Assuming you use those rules, the way that you have it set up looks good if you want that much screen in front of you. Otherwise, I'd keep the "Player's Option" one handy and just refer to it when needed. It'd probably stay tucked inside the Master Index.

The Outward-facing sides are information for the players. You may notice that the duplicated THAC0 tables have a table for Monster THAC0 on the inside, but lacks that on the outside. As has been said, it's divided between Core stuff and Player's Option stuff. I always used the Core screen with the Spelljammer screen when I DM'd Spelljammer.

Everyone's got it right so far, I just think it's funny that you think a "Standard" GM screen is four panels. The very first GM screens were ALL two separate 3 panel boards, usually set up in the fashion of the last two photos. To quote Groucho Marx "[Fake German Accent]You young peoples is so CRAZY...[/Fake German Accent]" Lolz

Nah fraid you got me pegged all wrong, I spent most of my youth in the early 90's playing AD&D (2e), and our screens WERE four panels, because that's exactly what two middle school binders side by side were ;p
