AD&D Adventure Record

Did anyone ever use these on a regular basis? If so, what did you like about them?

Reason I'm asking is I'm running a game for kids at the local library, and I was thinking of cobbling something similar to these to hand out each session. Currently, they are all using pregenerated characters, but I like the idea of giving them things to hold on to and take home with them -- more along the lines of the RPGA's adventure records but with less crazy paperwork. I'm just not sure that anyone would have a real use for them. So I'd like to hear from people who actually used these adventure records in their game.

Thanks,
Tom

well...i never used one of this, but if u wanna give them something, why not make a copy , one for them and one for you?

also, u can give pictures/gravures of treasure, npc or even their PC!

whats the reason u whant to give them something?

Right. But aside from the perm character record, what use did you get out of the adventure records?

And Rossik, I am going to make index card props for various magic items and special equipment. That always seemed like a good idea.

i used a three ring binder and blank paper. so the blue sheets while nice didn't see much use.

besides i think i was the only one in my group with the Perm Character Record.

it was kinda like the DM log book. i used it some. but mostly just used blank paper.

Beat me to it: I was going to suggest that it sounds like you're trying to create a player log/diary based on PC activities.

I used these sheets a couple times, but ultimately decided they were more hassle than they're worth -- having to fill all that info out every session takes too much time/effort. Plus, theses sheets only really "work" when used in conjunction with the permanent character folder because there's too much impotant info that isn't on these sheets (most obviously, the character's ability scores!), whereas if you try to use them in conjunction with the classic goldenrod sheets there's too much repeated/redundant info. I like the idea of an Adventure Record for players -- a place to keep track of what they did each session, exactly how much treasure and XP they gained, who they met, who died, etc. -- and think such a sheet could be made based on this one, but it would take some work. I wouldn't really want to use this sheet again as-is.

So then, how would you redesign it?

Seriously. How can you make an adventure record that isn't overly redundant and meaning at the same time? First things first, lets keep it to one sheet. I doesn't have to look like the adventure record of yore, but has to serve a function. That is, to keep track of the events of an adventure in a simple, non-complex way.

Remember, this is a sheet for kids (ages 13-16). Currently they are using prerolled characters.

Or would you scrap the idea entirely?
