AD&D Reprint review

Hey folks,
I just posted up a review of the reissued 1e AD&D books on the main page of my website. I know a lot of people either got them today and haven't had a chance to pick them up or are eagerly awaiting them via UPS or Fedex from an online purchase. I apologize for the photos, and please, the text...yeah, that's Joomla, not me. Trust me, in the editor every letter is like postage stamp sized, yet it won't change a thing for the output :( Hopefully it's still readable!

Anyway you can read it on the front-page here:

The Delver's Dungeon - a 1st Edition AD&D Resource

Can't wait til Paizo wings them down to NZ, nice review.

Though (without them in hand but seeing your images) I would knock it down to 9/10 for the loss of some awesome details on iconic art. As this is mostly a collectors edition, having great art is important. Should you buy this for proper gaming use then yeah 9.9 probably right

Yeah, they stayed as true to the originals as possible, but with this they had to create the first true digital "copy" of these books, and for the art they had to use scanned and then cleaned up copies of the original printings. So some detail was definitely lost in the artwork due to the "cleaning" they had to do.

Over all I am very happy with the new covers. Yeah, a part of me wishes they had used the original versions, but these new ones do look "Deluxe" to me, and I like all the little touches they did to the covers to make them look extra special.

I am just glad that I have new copies that look like they will hold up for the next 30+ years as well as my old copies have for the last 30 years, but won't for the next 30 years. I have new "babies" with which to carry the legacy forward with, and are young and strong enough to hold up for the next 30 years or so. Plus they have their own look, and I think the look is really cool.

They are extremely well put together; my hat's off to them. Cloth binding, solid construction, the works. If I were a crazy billionaire...I'd buy WIZARDS OF THE COAST and make AD&D the default game forever! Ahem. I'd disassemble one of the books down to the core components to show off how it was made but man I can't bring myself to do that, billionaire or not.

Alternatively, folks, feel free to comment on it right here in this thread on EN World. We ain't a links directory, and we really need to codify a rule about posting threads designed to get people to post elsewhere. :)

(@thedungeondelver, I realise your intention wasn't malicious; it's just a tendency I've seen creeping into the boards recently. If one posts about something on EN World, EN World is where one continues to discuss that thing.)

Good to hear about the bindings. But, and I'm no expert on bookbinding, I see similar stitches on the spine of my 4e PHB, and a friend's copy is already falling apart.

Hm, that is interesting and, I must say, a little disappointing about the binding. I intend to do some editing on the article and will correct accordingly.
