Adamant Entertainment and China Miéville Present:

TALES OF NEW CROBUZON

Adamant Entertainment has reached an agreement with award-winning author China Miéville to license his fantasy setting of Bas-lag, which featured in the novels Perdido Street Station, The Scar and Iron Council. Adamant Entertainment will publish a roleplaying game that will allow fans of the series to have their own adventures in the city of New Crobuzon. Subsequent game books will continue to explore the setting and characters of the world of Bas-lag.

"The city of New Crobuzon is an incredibly rich setting," said Adamant Entertainment owner Gareth-Michael Skarka. "We're extremely proud to be producing a game that gives it the level of detail and attention that it deserves."

"I grew up on RPGs," said China Miéville, "And the idea of a Bas-Lag game is incredibly exciting and humbling. That people might want to play in the world of my books is a tremendous honour."

The game will also feature a special treat for Miéville's fans -- the original map of the city of New Crobuzon, drawn by the author, as well as his own illustrations of some of the creatures found in the world of Bas-lag.

Interested fans can discuss the project at the Adamant Entertainment forums -- found on the company's website at adamantentertainment.com

Wow. That's awesome. I can't wait to hear some more details on this. Do you think you'll have info on the format of the product (hardcover, electronic, etc.) soon?

We're in the early stages of development, so I don't have a lot of details, but I can tell you that it will be available in print as well as PDF. Beyond that, though, things are still very fluid....

Erm.. Just googled him.

Wow, this sounds like a very rich setting. I can't wait to see how this will translate into an rpg.

Mmm.. More reading to do.

Are you going to be doing this with your Odyssey system?

No, an original system -- although we will probably include a conversion appendix for Odyssey (as well as one for 4e, assuming the GSL allows it and the rules work).

Holy F-in' Score! That's amazing news, and awesome for Adamant. Looking forward to hearing more. If there is any kind of design blog, please post a link here so I can follow along in envious anticipation.

BTW, don't want to derail, (can always start a diff thread if appropriate), but is there any further news on Far West?

Cheers!

I've read Perdido Street Station and I'm in the middle of The Scar right now. Both are phenomenal books.

The city of New Crobuzon itself is so full of possibilities for gaming, and that's just a small part of the whole world. The city of Armada from The Scar is an amazing idea and would be just as good to use in a game.

Can't wait to see this one (although count me among those who are sorry to see Far West set aside for now).

I could always tell that China Mieville's gamer cred was strong from reading about the "adventurers" encountered in Perdido Street. :D

This is definately exciting news, and I very much look forward to hearing more. China is one of my favourite authors, period, and GMS has done a lot of work I respect.
