Adamantine axe?

It says it has a +2 NON MAGICAL enhancement bonus. But I'm told it doesn't stack, so enchanting further would be way too expensive. Yet it costs as much as a +2 magical weapon.

What's the point?

It also should sell well too, while magic can be made, admantine has to be found usually, and should get a much better resale value.

Also note, that the +2 no longer works against DR, this is from the MMII.

While I think it should:) that's how it goes.

But it won't work against a ghost or other creatures that can be harmed only with magic weapons.

It won't be any better than a normal axe at harming incorporeal creatures, but it will hurt creatures with DR X/+2 - DR just requires an enhancement bonus to overcome and makes no distinction as to whether the source of that bonus is magical or not.

It makes that distinction very clearly in the MMII, under Damage Reduction. Lots of people don't like it, just as Stalker0 said, but there it is.

Don't you just love these moments when some WotC "guru" leaps out and redefines the way things work, THREE YEARS after the fact?

As MMII has yet to reach the dark recesses of the galaxy in which I live, does it actually try to motivate this seemingly random and inane decision?

There isn't one. Adamantine blows.

As sundering is normally a sub-optimal combat move, most people who even try tend to focus on sundering. With the improved sunder feat plus the maul of the titans, you'll find that adamantine weapons are as fragile as paper. Also, they can be sundered by dragons, and other creatures with high strength scores that do not use weapons, while magical weapons cannot be sundered in this fashion.

Good thing the Maul of the Titans, or Shatterspike for that matter, isn't as commonly available as Aspirin then, eh?
