Adding weapon special abilities to amulet of mighty fists

If I were the GM, I would allow the monk to purchase the Amulet (or Bracers, or Gloves, or heck a Vest!) of Might Fists for the same cost as a weapon enchanted that way, limit the item to only affect Unarmed Strikes (and not Natural Attacks), and allow the user to put whatever suitable weapon enchants he wants on it (as if "Unarmed Attack" were a weapon he could wield).

A shirt or vest of Natural Armor makes so much more sense to me than an amulet, anyway.

Wow, it sure didn't take long for this thread to derail into The INA Wars (and based on conceptual arguments, no less - not even rules quotes!) :p

It would be best if you denied shadow-striking to the monk, as it is flagrantly in violation of the rules text, and both sides of The Great INA Altercation seem to agree on that much.

Regarding adamantine strike: A monk's adamantine strike overcomes adamantine DR. It does not suddenly become actually adamantine. This is an important distinction.

At 16th level, her unarmed attacks are treated as adamantine weapons for the purpose of dealing damage to creatures with damage reduction and bypassing hardness.

Note carefully how it says nothing about qualifying for anything.

Oh believe me, I'm not at all suggesting that the Rules as Written specifically allow a monk's fists to be enhanced as a magic weapon, quite the opposite. A monk's fist, according to RAW, does not qualify as a masterword weapon and cannot be enhanced.

I mentioned it because it came up once and I found it an interesting question. I also found the GMs ruling that once the monk qualified for Ki Strike that he would allow it (house rule obviously) to be interesting.

Ultimately, after having thought about it more, I think it elegantly solves many of the issues I have with the monk class. I would allow it as a house rule as well.

At one point in an old game, I allowed the Monk's player to purchase "Weapon Tattoos" that were essentially enhancements to his unarmed strike, and charged the normal weapon enhancement cost * the modifier for an inappropriate body slot. It seemed to work out well.

I've heard someone ask if they would be able to have their fists enchanted as if they were magical weapons. Specifically they wanted "+2 Holy" placed on their fists. Obviously they would have to be there along with the crafter for each day of the crafting process.

RAW allows Magic Fang + Permanency on unarmed strikes.

SRD: Magic Fang

I don't see any reason why bless weapon wouldn't work for unarmed strikes too.
