Adept Familiars

Familiar: At 2nd level, an adept can call a familiar, just like a sorcerer or wizard can.

This was all I saw on the familiars for adepts. My character is about to train some followers as adepts and I would like to know how this is supposed to work for the familiars special abilities. are the special abilities counted on total apept levels so Touch would be gained at Adept 3 or is it adept levels -1 so they would get the Touch ability at Adept 4. I always thought it was the latter but PCgen which I use has it as total adept levels.

There's no indication in the adept description that the familiar special abilities are any different than for the sorceror or wizard, and as far as I know there isn't any errata on this. So I'd just go with total adept levels.
