Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire: Prestige Class bonded to named dragon

Qwillion

First Post
[designer's note, This class was designed to be a setting specific version of the dragon diciple Prc, you can easily customize this to match specific dragons other than Fafnir Skyfire, With the idea that you can progress as a Half-dragon through a Transformation ritual in my setting, I have removed the majority of the lets make a half-dragon prestige class and left in the idea that you can advance your powers if a half dragon chose this class]

Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire (AoFS)

"Adherents of Fafnir Skyfire? Well now, first you need to know about the dragon known as Fafnir Skyfire. Fafnir is one of the sons of the legendary dragon Durin Mythwyrm, who himself said to be the only child of The Chromatic Queen and the Platinum King. Nothing is known of Fafnir's mother, but it is assumed that she was a red dragon that had been enslaved by the Illren Empire.

Adherents of Fafnir Skyfire are dragon mages who venerate Fafnir as a sacred creature and have been chosen by the Skyfire dragon for some draconic bond. Be wary Venturer, Adherents of any dragon are dangerous even to converse with, not to mention completely cracked."

Class Features
All of the following are Class Features of the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Adherent of Fafnir Skyfires gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

Skyfire bond (Ex): All Special Abilites gained from the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire prestige class are lost if Fafnir Skyfire dies, though they can be regained if he is returned to life.

Breath Weapon (Su): Fire cone 30 feet long Ref 1/2 (DC 10 + 1/2 character level + Con modifier). The breath weapon can be used once per day per class level but no more than once every d4 rounds. Use all the rules for dragon breath weapons except as specified here. If a creature already has a breath weapon of the same type of breath weapon (cone fire) this damage stacks as do uses per day.

Lace Spell (Ex): All your spells deal +2d6 points of fire damage on a failed save.

Keen Senses (Ex): A dragon sees four times as well a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. It also has darkvision out to 120 feet.

Fafnir's Gift (Ex): The Character gains the Dragon creature type, immunity to fire sleep and paralisis, and gains the Fire subtype

Blindsense (Ex): At 7th level, the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire gains blindsense with a range of 60 feet. Using nonvisual senses the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire notices things it cannot see. He usually does not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice and pinpoint the location of creatures within range of his blindsense ability, provided that he has line of effect to that creature.
Any opponent the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire cannot see still has total concealment against him, and the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire still has the normal miss chance when attacking foes that have concealment. Visibility still affects the movement of a creature with blindsense. A creature with blindsense is still denied its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class against attacks from creatures it cannot see.

Spell Resistnace (Ex): At 10th level, a Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire gains spell resistance equal to her current character level + 11. In order to affect the adherent of Fafnir Skyfire with a spell, a spellcaster must get a result on a caster level check (1d20 + caster level) that equals or exceeds the Adherent of Fafnir Skyfire’s spell resistance.

Non Standard Feats in the prerequsites.
Dragon Magic [General] (BoEM III)
You learn to master powerful magic that normally only
dragons use.
Prerequisites: Caster level 3rd+, Intelligence 13+,
Charisma 15+, speak Draconic
Benefit: You can learn spells with the Dragon Magic component,
normally unavailable to nondragons. Nondragons
with this feat are often called dragon mages.
Special: Dragons gain this feat for free.

Frightful Presence [General](D20 Modern)
Prerequisites: Charisma 15, Intimidate 9 ranks.
Benefit: When the character uses this feat, all opponents within 10 feet who have fewer levels than the character must make a Will saving throw (DC 10 + ½ the character’s level + the character’s Charisma modifier). An opponent who fails his or her save is shaken, taking a -2 penalty on attack rolls, saves, and skill checks for a number of rounds equal to 1d6 + the character’s Charisma modifier. The character can use the feat once per round as a free action.
A successful save indicates that the opponent is immune to the character’s use of this feat for 24 hours. This feat does not affect creatures with an Intelligence of 3 or lower.
If the character has the Renown feat, the Will saving throw’s DC increases by 5.

You may be interested in my Half-Dragon template (which is geared towards PCs being able to take it), and my Half-Dragon specific PrCs:

My comments on your PrC: full spellcasting progression is strong even for one who had to lose 2-3 levels to the Half-Dragon Template.

Lace Spell is strong in combination with full spellcasting progression.

Spell Resistance is IMHO over the top.

I'd have to crunch some numbers (do some example characters), but at first glance this looks too strong.

Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to review my prestige class if you would like me to return the favor just point me in the right direction.

I am stuck using the sean k reynolds version at the wizards website.

full spellcasting progression is strong
yes it is ment to be to ineffecient not to do so.

Lace Spell is strong
not really it only works when you fail the save and this is around 9th level not really that huge. most of the time you avoid using it because you don't want to be offensive. (no point using the ability when you use suggestion, fly or polymoph)

Spell Resistance is IMHO over the top.
This one I vehmently disagree with you upon it's one point better than the monk and the same as a drow plus it at best going to be gained at 17th level. I believe all top tier abilities should be powerful.

first glance this looks too strong.
it's ment to be PRESTIGIOUS to have this class thus the tough requirements. I allways hate prestige classes that are not prestigious.

Sure, Monks get good SR. Note how few spells they can cast.

Let me ask: do you need to be a Half-Dragon to take this PrC? If so, does the additional Breath Weapon stack with that provided by the Half-Dragon Template?

If it requires that you already be a Half-Dragon, then Fafnir's gift is meaningless.

If you don't need to be a Half-Dragon, it's insanely overpowered! Consider a Sorcerer who took this PrC: what would he lose? (aside from some cross-class skill points in Intimidate.)

Full spellcasting progression is very strong. Don't give it away for better-than-free with 3/4 BAB, two good saves, AND a heap of special abilities. I'd suggest losing at least 3 levels of spellcasting (at 1st, 4th and 7th levels), and at least four if you grant SR.

Note how few spells they can cast.

I also note the better saves, better hit points. though perhaps I should lower the BAB. I also note that it is granted at 4 levels later than monk. any decent cleric already has this ability as a basic spell. It is the flavor of the dragon plain and simple being the best ability of being a dragon I made it the 10th level ability.

No the requirements don't have a racial prerequsite only that you be a non true dragon a half-dragon can take it but you don't have to be,

Read breath weapon I quote, "If a creature already has a breath weapon of the same type of breath weapon (cone fire) this damage stacks as do uses per day."

If you don't need to be a Half-Dragon, it's insanely overpowered! Consider a Sorcerer who took this PrC: what would he lose? (aside from some cross-class skill points in Intimidate.)

all benifits to his familiar, any ability to switch out spells, 4 wasted skill points in knowledge local and if you don't take cosomipalitan you can't take meet the prerequsites without losing a caster level untill 15th level as a sorcerer (very suboptimal feat), the suboptimal feat Skill focus Knowledge (arcana), and three of his spells known chosen for him including polymorph . Plus having to do what he is told by a dragon who does what it pleases with you. Also Don't forget this class is availible to Clerics (with proper domains) and wizards not just sorcerers. (in my setting this is also availible to bards since all the spells are availible to him.)

Full spellcasting progression is very strong
This we will just have to disagree on as I will never make a prestige class without it because no effeciant caster gives up caster levels.

Don't give it away for better-than-free with 3/4 BAB, two good saves, AND a heap of special abilities.
I don't give it away free it has very steep prerequisites, its bab does not penalize clerics who take this. though I have been back and forth on BAB it is the one thing I would lower but dragons are great warriors and a prestige class is supposed to be PRESTIGIOUS not some just some varient form of a core class.

If you think I need to increase prerequsites I could understand but your points are all that this is too powerful that is too powerful. If so perhaps we just play at different power levels within our own settings.
