Adjudicating Illusions

In particular, I am interested in how you run the image (silent image, minor image, etc.) line of spells. It seems like they can either be extremely powerful or worthless depending on DM preference because the rules governing their use seem rather vague.

Spellcraft checks screw them too.

Also
Because figments and glamers (see below) are unreal, they cannot produce real effects the way that other types of illusions can. They cannot cause damage to objects or creatures, support weight, provide nutrition, or provide protection from the elements. Consequently, these spells are useful for confounding or delaying foes, but useless for attacking them directly.
