Advanced Player's Guide - Info?

The_Universe

First Post
I just saw on the White Wolf website that a book called the "advanced players guide" is coming out shortly (tomorrow, I believe) from the Sword and Sorcery imprint.

I don't recall hearing ANYTHING about this book in the past, and I am curious what it's supposed to be. If you know anything, fill me in, please!

That's weird - I thought that the advanced products were going to be producted by Green Ronin http://www.greenronin.com/cgi-bin/product.cgi?prodid=1602 . I haven't seen too much info about them, however.

- Just went and checked out the S&S main site. Now, that's weird. Here's the only info I could dig up, all from the product catalog..

"Explore the Possibilities
What if your ranger could stop a dragon in its tracks with one wellaimed arrow? What if your wizard used geomancy to cast his spells, or your priest derived her power from relics blessed by the gods? What if you wanted to use a mana- or even a skill-based spellcasting system? Look no further - the advanced rules you need are here!

Take Your Game to a New Level
The Advanced d20 Compendium is a companion volume to the Player’s Handbook and other d20 core rulebooks that provides a wealth of new rules options for players and Game Masters. New and expanded classes, new skills, new combat systems and more - all the tools you need to supercharge your campaign! Hardcover.

Sword & Sorcery books are published under the Open Game License and are 100% compatible with v.3.5 rules and the d20 System.

U.S. Page Count: 224. Authors: Aaron Rosenberg, Geoff Skellams, Patrick O’Duffy and more. Developer: Mike Lee. Artists: SSS Staff "

Ummm.... Yay?

Well, I guess people have decided that individual classbooks and racebooks have been done to death, so they're going to put them all in one volume. :)

Cheers!

Green Ronin is also doing books along a similar line. The Advanced Bestiary was due for March, but has been delayed.

That means 2 companies are each doing a set of books. When the S&SS books were first announced about 4 months ago, there was an expectation that the similar names would create confusion between them and the ones from Green Ronin.

One thing Green Ronin has going for theirs is authors -- people who have done work for WotC on D&D are doing the Green Ronin books (Skip Williams is listed as the author on the Advanced Players Manual, IIRC, and Owen K. C. Stephens has done the Advanced Bestiary, again IIRC); I don't recognize the authors names on the S&SS books.

I know Aaron Rosenberg. Aaron's a smart guy, an Origins Award Winner (Gamemastering Secrets), and is damn funny in person.

Not that that has much to do with d20 mechanics, but it bodes very well.
