Advancing Animals

Howdy!

What happens when a Animal (such as a Tiger) is advanced in HD and gains additional BAB so that it becomes +6/1?

Does this mean the tiger now gets 4 attacks with its claws (2 at +6 and 2 at +1) and then 1 bite? Or does multiple attacks not apply to animals which have multiple primary attacks?

Monsters using natural weapons never gain extra attacks from a high BAB.

Creatures do not receive additional attacks from a high base attack bonus when using natural weapons.

I really hope they change that in upcoming editions. I somehow find it stupid that the difference between having iterative attacks and not having them is based on wielding a weapon. And even that rule is not consistent since characters can punch using their 'natural' weapons as a 'light' weapon thus gaining iterative attacks.

I think it's fine the way it is. 9 times out of 10, the critter gets to start off with more attacks than he should have based on BAB, because of the existence of natural weapons. Critters basically get to triple- and quadruple-weapon fight, without needing the many feats a human PC does.

It all balances out. humanoids get iterative attacks based on BAB. Critters get more attacks to start with (for having several natural weapons), without having to spend feats to get them.
