So, any players out there ever had the BBEG cast holy word on the party ..... ?

The BBEG? No.

The BBGG? Yes. There was once an event in my home campaign where the PCs were confronted by a planetar who sought to judge them for their actions (some party members had engaged in some right dubious activity which had resulted in an alignment shift or two). When given a chance to prove their virtue, the planetar rewarded those PCs who were unaffected by his holy word spell with a miracle. Now THAT got the neutral players grumbling.
