(Adventure) A Merry Chase *Judge: Uriel

"The road should be good. Staying out of the road would bring too much attention to us if we were spot."

North or South, Rinaldo vote to go as far from the capital, as there would be too much guard near it.

OOC: Sorry about the delay, but I,m still there, and should be more ponctuate now.

OOC: north on the road would take you towards a small town from what you gathered from Sue, and in the general direction of the capital. South will take you towards the presumed "stopping point" of the circus, whatever happened to it, and somewhat in the direction you cam from, though you've moved a good chunk to the west. I consulted with Thels via AIM a bit, and am taking that conversation and paladin status into account in playing Zoe a bit more activly for the moment.

Zoe had seemed uncomfortable hiding in the cellar for the night, and now watching Sue dig graves while Anthony keeps a watch on the skies and hills, she speaks. "I know our mission is important, but if there really was a dragon as part of the circus, I can't leave it wandering around these innocents... And there's still something out there, we all heard those noises. It seems most folks around here are still in hiding, and as the princess said any soldiers in the area are likely combing the main road and the mountains for us, so it shouldn't be too dangerous to find out what happened and see if the dragon survived it." She seems akward but continues, "If you both think its too much of a risk of revealing ourselves, you could start moving as you see fit and I'll go check it out myself and catch up after, but I just can't walk away. I worried that this employment might conflict with my vows, but this wasn't the way I imagined."

"Zoe, please. You are not talking of goblin brigand, you are talking about a dragon. You think you stand a chance against a dragon. I have heard many dragon story in my travels, some are a bit ridiculous, but even then, I havn't heard any story with a dragon who is not able to slice and dice a human in a few second. The smallest I have heard are the size of a horse. Ok, I've heard that some can be good, still I am not sure if they are true stories, but think about it, if you have been expose at a freek show, you won't be nice with the people who have capture you or the ones that have paid to see you, which means, any humans. If you want to take a look, fine, we can come with you, but forget it, you won't hunt that down. If we find any evidence that the dragon is a danger to the population, we will alert the guard. I am even willing to do it, even if it means that Imust pass the next two weeks in prison. They will be able to do something about it. But please, Zoe, a dragon is not an Orc, a Dragon could kill a whole Orc village, so you won't be able to do something alone, even if your good will and generosity is as big as the turtle who carry that world..."

OOC: Is that have been determine? A turtle who carry the world... anyway, just like the comparison.

Zoe nods and smiles at rinaldo's fervor. "I'm not going to throw my life away hopelessly, my vows don't require stupidity... But those screams last night seemed to be of pain, the dragon could be wounded, easier to take on now than if it has time to rest and recover. Or it could already be dead, and not our problem. Either way, I have to see it and deal with it, one way or another, before I can leave this area." She adds with a grin, "And it would be good to have you along if we are going to scout it first... I just haven't mastered the art of sneaking up on things."

Heading south along the small road, you observe that the countryside is quiet - livestock are still in thier pens, and no farmers work the fields. The common folk are still waiting out the events of the prior night it would appear. Rounding a bend in the road you see a grissly sight - a horseman dressed in a flashy red jacket and his mount, both savaged apparently in flight. They have giant bite wounds on them and Zoe recognizes the marks around some as signs of frostbite - odd in the summer morning. Beyond him you see several wagons, overturned or damaged, the horses dead. More bodies are here, some wrapped in cobwebs like the Hayes, other bitten or bludgeoned.

Beside one overturned wagon is the most bizarre sight you have seen in this strange night and morning. A ten foot long metal pole stands at an angle... but it stands in the air, not seemingly grounded in anything. The top half is coated in a disgusting ocher, possibly some foul creature's blood. On the ground beside it is the body of a small but wiry woman, sprawled beside an open trunk and with deep puncture wounds on her torso. Looking carefully, Rinaldo can see a trail of the same foul liquid leading away from the pole.

"Well, look at that knight. Do you still think it is a good idea? Mother earth! what kind of magic is that? If it is a dragon, or it is a foul beast, or he have some companion, and of both type we already met. Look, come frost, like th eone in the hill, and that spider web, like the one in the house. It seems they weren't alone in that freak show."

Rinaldo move slowly to the pole, looking for any sign of the creature.

"And what do you think is acting on that pole. I've never seen such thing. I know some magician can levitate or even fly, but a pole? How it work? and why someone would have made that happen? What the interest?"

Rinaldo have his buckler and his rapier, in case of a creature would still be hiding near. He examine closely everything. He want to know more about the beasts who had made that.

Persephone

"Zoe, sister. You're crazy. My great great great great great grandfather killed a dragon. Doing that made him famous, made him a hero among dwarves, and the resulting treasure allowed him to create a city. But that's big stuff. We're not nearly tough enough to mess with such things. Still, one way's as good as another, I suppose. We could check it out. But if you go charging off to fight it, don't expect anyone to follow you."

When the odd sight of carnage presents itself. Persephone wrinkles her nose. "Oh gosh. This is way to bad for us." She makes sure her crossbow is loaded and looks in the open trunk.

Zoe kneels beside a few of the bodies in turn, examining them (heal checks). "These have been dead quite a while, probably since the initial breakout last night," she says, sketching a holy symbol in the air above each corpse. "Perhaps they were the first victims of the monsters we have already slain?"

Rinaldo: Getting closer to the pole, you see two buttons on it near the center, and are reminded of a magical item you had heard was in large demand amoung those who fancied themselves adventurers - a short rod which became fixed in place with the press of a single button. You've never heard of one so long, and don't know what the second button would be for in that case, but it seems a similar item. You also notice that the strange orcre/blood is completely dried where it starts on the pole (just a few inches above the buttons), gelled higher up and fairly fresh looking at the top and in the trail leading away. There are smears in the lower blood as well.

(manzanite, I hope I didn't lose you waiting for rinaldo... :\ please come back... treasure! ;) )

edit: you returned even as I posted! happy day! :D

Persephone

Persephone glances up from her search of the trunk. "That staff is pretty cool. It looks like it not only floats, but can kill stuff too."

"Cool because it can kill stuff? What the??? Are everyone is going mad?!? Zoe now want to kill a dragon and Persephone find cool something that can kill. I really start to miss my old business, pay a lot less, but at least, the people was more reasonnable.

I have heard of such item, well, not exactly such one. They were whorter and I suppose they had only one button. They are able to float by puching the button. A friend of mine wanted one so he could suspend his food while travelling, so no wild animals could eat it while he was sleeping. Now the second button, I do not know, but as far as I can suppose, it may be that that kill that woman. I am not sure it is a good idea to touch it.

And look at that blood. It is dried, and that one, is still fresh. That weird, but it seems that we are not far behind a creature, as the blood is still fresh, and that creature is wounded. But if it is the dragon, I am not sure it is a good idea to follow it. A wounded animal is more vicious in combat, as he knows he is losing and having nothing more to fear. That what said a friend of mine who was training and selling horses."

Persephone

"Ah, all this adventuring is having an effect on me. You're right Rindaldo. Please keep me in line. But as for dragons," Persephone turns to Zoe and begins to wag her finger like a schoolyard tattletale, "Dragons can smell princesses like me and like to eat us more than anything. And the softer and prettier we are, the more they like to eat us. And I'm as soft and pretty as we come." Persephone pauses here, poking and feeling at her soft spots. She gives her butt a whack. "You know, this wandering about away from good food may be tough, but I think it's done my thighs and butt some good..."
