Hi,
I was just told that we're going to play tomorrow, and I need some help.
It's my our family campaign (ages 10..15) and I recently had the ideato get them into a classical
horror / vampire story.
FYI, they are 4 players, D&D 5e, level 8: he sorcerer, hu druid, we ranger, ha rogue.
I think I have some good basic ideas (partly inspired by the vampire abilities), but can not yet put
them together.
So here are my (very basic) ideas:
1) cold and harsh winter in a central european climate => freezing and snow
2) the party gets an invitation to a ball by Lady Malice Griffonloft to Castle Griffonloft, which lies
a little far out in a forest region (transylvania).
3) Castle Griffonloft keeps a dark secret: 66 years ago it was ruled by Sir Malfoy Griffonloft,
a vampire. His own daughter Marla managed somehow to drive a wooden stake into his heart and leave him
in his tomb in the castle. She just couldn't bring herself to really kill her father, so she left him with
the stake.... and took the secret to her grave.
A few weeks ago, the kids of Lady Malice somehow managed to lift the coffin lid and were surprised
to find their quite alive looking great grandfather (they know from a painting, family history is important!).
The kids wondered why there was a stick in the body, so they removed it. Before grand-daddy came back
to (un-)life, the kids left the family crypt...
4) the adventurers usually travel with a horse wagon, so there will be some nice horror feel
on the way to the castle: it's getting dark early, even colder, shadows in the forest beside the way,
the horses panic, maybe an attack by (winter-) wolves or a bat swarm.
5) The village Griffondale below castle Griffonloft is worried, because in the last few weeks some people
disappeared.
So that's it...
But how can I link these basic ideas?
I would definitely like to keep the idea with invitation to the ball and granddaddy vampire.
- the invitation is fake, sent from the local priest who found some hints in his predecessor's history notes
and suspects some greater evil he cannot fight alone
- Lady Malicia herself is looking for help
- Lady Malicia wants to lure some more victims
???
