[Adventure] Marna is Missing (DM: pacdidj, Judge: renau1g)

Ferris hisses at the Eyeless creature and ignores the slashing Tendril behind him for now.

In a series of blows and feints, Ferris' axe begins to radiate a radiant light, and as the axe barely hits the Eyeless creature, Dayna rewards Ferris with a return of some of his vigor.

Ferris laughs out loud in the ecstasy of battle... and then he sees the crumpled form of Alnar. His laughing abruptly ceases as he calls upon Daynas favor once again, to empower his Healing Words. Seeing Alnar stir, Ferris girds himself for the next assault, noticing the dizzying weakness caused by his sharing of energy has faded, as well as the bestial vigor that had been slowly trickling into him.

The final dark one, ignoring Jezebel's sanction, steps nimbly out of Alnar's and Ferris' reach and takes a futile swipe at Sir Exsixten, incurring a fatal smite from Jezebel's Oni patrons. The evil little man drops to the ground, reduced to nothing more than a smoking husk.

The hound, now surrounded, injured, and outnumbered, lets out a howl of anguish and rage, giving Sir Exsixten a final, perfunctory bite before disappearing back to the fell realm from which it was summoned.

You pause for a moment to catch your breath after the hard won battle. You all have injuries to tend to, and the organic members of your party are still looking ill after being inundated with the corrupt fumes spewed by Dhakanmirr's shadowy minions. You doubt you have time for more than a short breather however: both Dhakanmirr and Hekthesh mentioned an imminent ritual at the Eladrin burial site of Baerdun. Based on what you've seen here you fear such a ritual may bode ill for the peoples of this island.

[sblock="Combat Over!"]You've handily dispensed with Dhakanmirr's first line of defense. Good job! Go ahead and take a short rest here. Ferris, Jezebel, Alnar, and Cyr will all need to make an initial Endurance check vs. DC 16 or contract Filth Fever. Everyone will need to make this roll for themselves, as treating disease using the heal skill is only an option during an extended rest. The initial effect of the disease is the loss of one healing surge. Please indicate any surges you are spending to top off, and post a stat block indicating surges and powers used.

After you've tended to the party's wounds, you'll need to decide how best to proceed. If you choose to head straight for Baerdun to stop the ritual, we'll probably proceed in the form of a mini-skill challenge to remember what you can of Fizzenden's map and track the movement's of Hekthesh. You could also seek the aid of the gnomes, humans, or shifters, to try to recruit help or find out what you're up against, which may prove useful, but will also give Dhakanmirr and his followers time to fortify their defenses, and perhaps complete their ritual. Feel free to discuss in or out of character.[/sblock]

Can we assume we get healing from Ferris each healing surge we spend?[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Only if you plan to take multiple short rests here. Doing this may result in an increased DC if you decide to track Hekthesh afterwards though, as it will allow the trail to go cold.[/sblock]

Ferris slumps wearily to the ground, getting his wind back and marshalling his reserves. I feel...odd

Endurance Check=17

Edit:[sblock=GM] If we use Jezebel's findings, I'll use this roll as my save instead...14:Success[/sblock]

Shaking off the weird nausea, Ferris stands up and looks balefully at his gore-stained chain mail... That is gonna start to smell.

[sblock=ooc] My vote is we go after them right now... Also I am going camping till tomorrow (night?) so won't be reading or posting till then. If its needed feel free to take actions for me. [/sblock]

[sblock=GM] used 2 HS's (non-Healing Worded)-- Also, a question about Wildshape...my understanding from reading it is that I drop my weapon and shield, when I use it, correct? So my AC and Reflex will drop? [/sblock]

[sblock=disease]When you are exposed to a disease from a monster's attack, you roll a saving throw at the end of the encounter to see if you are infected (DMG p.49). The Endurance checks only come in after each extended rest.

Jezebel fails the save. (and the endurance check that I rolled first before looking the rule up. ;)) That drops her to 10/12 surges from 11/13. She spends one surge to get to 35/37 hp and 9/12 surges.

Also, I think that was a milestone?[/sblock]
Jezebel was most likely the least injured person in the fight, but nevertheless, the corruption infecting her finds easy purchase in her hell-tainted blood. She catches her breath in only a few moments, and does she have to bandage any wounds, but she does notice an unusual fatigue setting in. It must be because she did not stretch first before trekking across a forest and then fighting a savage battle.

"Everyone alive? ... Good. Hekthesh will not escape us so easily. Let's go after him before he gets too far."

[sblock=samursus]I think I used it during the skill challenge. Pity!
On the bright side, paladins have a crazy amount of surges. As long as the disease doesn't advance too far, it's not a problem.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Dekana is right, it should be a save rather than an endurance check to resist filth fever at this point. My bad. And yes, the skill challenge + this encounter makes a milestone.[/sblock]

[sblock="re: Dayna's Blessing"]Here's how it was originally worded:

[sblock=Dayna's Blessing]Once within the next 24 hours, or before the end of the next extended rest, each PC may choose to end the blessing to take a +2 bonus on a single skill check or attack roll. You may apply the bonus after making the roll.[/sblock]

Since it's a saving throw to resist the disease rather than a skill check, I'm going to go with no, Dayna's Blessing doesn't apply to the initial check for Filth Fever. It can be used for subsequent checks on the disease track though.[/sblock]
