Something is not right here. Shadow magic has been used here recently. I hope we are not too late... be careful everyone. Alnar says to the group.

"Oops" says Jezebel half-heartedly as she crushes part of the skull. She examines the remains as she scrapes the bonemeal off her boots. "Hmm. It looks like this Shifter has been here a long time. Before the damage out front, even. Maybe this is a Shifter building?" She glances at Ferris, wondering if he can give confirmation of that. Meanwhile, Jezebel continues on. The shadow magic Alnar is speaking about doesn't disturb her in the least.

The tiefling becomes silent when she sees the glowing torches. It does not take a huge leap of logic to guess who lit them.

[sblock=rolls]Nature 18, (no Perception roll; can't make DC 23), Arcana 9 fails. (rolls)[/sblock]

Ferris looks up at Jezebel's question.

"My people on Kythira, don't as a rule build tombs in the rock... but anything is possibe..."

SIR EXSIXTEN ADVANCES SLOWLY AT THE VANGUARD OF THE CITIZEN'S ARMY, MURMURING A HUMBLE PRAYER TO THE LORDS OF AWESOME THAT HIS ENEMIES' SUFFERING WILL BE SHORT, Sir Exsixten "thinks" as he advances forward into the room "stealthily".

[sblock="History 12 - per Jezebel's question"]Ferris is likely correct in saying that this is not a shifter tomb. Many ruins built by the historic Eladrin empire of Kythira dot the borders of the Shadowrift, and judging by the clearly Eladrin bones lining the walls, this is likely one of them. The Eladrin civilization on the island was wiped out in the cataclysm that created the Shadowrift, though how precisely this happened is lost to history, and is now matter of legend.

[sblock="History or Religion 19"]The historic Eladrin of the Living Isle are said to have had a deep understanding of the natural and primal forces at work on the Isle. They purportedly built their tomb sites in places where the spirit of one of the four elements (Earth, Fire, Wind, or Water) was particularly strong.[/sblock][/sblock]

Heedless of his companion's warnings, Sir Exsixten advances into the room. The mechanical knight passes between the first set of pillars just as Cyr spots the inscribed runes, and as he does so, the runes begin to pulse, emitting a lambent darkness that seems to swallow up the light in the room for a moment. Then you hear a massive *CRACK*, followed by a huge rumbling, as the pillars topple down and part of the roof caves in.

Falling rubble rains down upon you: Sir Exsixten and Jezebel, leading the way, are badly pummeled; Cyr, who had stepped up to study the runes is hit as well, though not as severely; Alnar and Ferris however, manage to avoid the falling debris, being far enough behind to miss most of the collapse. The pillars now lie cracked and broken, and large piles of rubble make travel through the room difficult.

[sblock="Trap results"]Trap attacks the entire party:
Sir Exsixten (+8 vs. Ref; 3d6+3 damage) - hit for 13 damage
Jezebel (+6 vs. Ref; 2d6+3 damage) - hit for 14 damage
Cyr (+6 vs. Ref; 2d6+3 damage) - hit for 8 damage
Alnar (+4 vs. Ref; 1d6+3 damage) - miss
Ferris (+4 vs. Ref; 1d6+3 damage) - miss
(Rolls)

Newly deposited piles of debris will be considered difficult terrain.[/sblock]

As the dust settles and you finish coughing, wheezing, and rubbing your heads, you gradually become aware of faint shuffling sounds emanating from the archway leading north.

DASTARDLY FOEMEN, EVEN YOUR FOUL DWELLING ATTACKS US! CITIZENS, COUNTER-ATTACK, TAKE THE FIGHT TO THE ENEMIES' VERY WALLS! Sir Exsixten swings his axe against the falling rubble. Cursing it when bits of it strike him, then smashing and slashing with foot and axe.

When things die down, he glares suspiciously at the ceilings and walls, as if daring them to try something like that again.

*hack* *cough* *cough* That's it! I"m trading you in for a new model when we see the gnomes! Alnar says to the Warforge as the dust clears.

Come on, this way... and be careful, there could be more traps!
Alnar says pointing north.
