(Adventure) Pest removal at unusual height and depth

Jack whispers quietly to Mintrik, "Know any spells to keep that bugger quiet?"

"No, maybe I can make him my friend though. Should we try that, or do you want to sneak up on him and take him out?"

If Jack doesn't want to use his roguish skills, Mintrik will move close enough to charm Lothe.

"I could, but I don't think he's who we're after," Jack considers, "he's just a bit crazy from living down here.* There's no need to kill him, if we don't have to... Better yet, if we can make him a friend. Maybe he can guide us around down here to where we need to be. It'd save us a lot of time."

*Sense Motive check +3 to confirm that.

Yep, that's the impression you get from Lothé.

Mintrik sneaks ahead with ease, to the point where he is close enough to cast charm person, and does so. Lothé does not wake up from that, so he cannot yet determine if the spell was a success.

"Ah, I thought you might have a sap... Well, nevermind then."

Mintrik moves forward and casts the spell. Afterward, he'll call out "Lothe, is that you?"

While the others are trying to get close enough to the creature, Shadowlyn decides to scout up ahead a little bit. She moves slowly, looking fo more of those traps by this creature. She will stay in hiding as well, just in case.

Shadowlyn: As Shadowlyn sneaks ahead, she doesn't find any traps until she's at the point where Lothé made that big step. As it happens, his other "clever" trap is an alarm of the same construction as the one she and Jack disabled earlier.

Mintrik: As Mintrik calls Lothé, the creature goes "Who What Where?" and rapidly rises up, only to bang its head against the ceiling. "Ouch! Oh! Lothé has guests! Lothé never had guests since the exits vanished and the gang died. How can Lothé help you?"

"Lothe, what happened? What do you mean about the exits and the gang? What are you doing here?"

Shadowlyn stops short of the trap, not wanting to alert anything else down here.

"Pssst, there's another one of those traps here? Mind giving me a hand with this?" she turns and asks Jack.

"Yeah, I saw it earlier," Jack quietly confirms, "Don't worry about it just yet. It looks like Lothe's gonna give us a hand, and we don't want to take away his 'security' while he's watching."

"Lothé had to turn to stealing to survive. Lothé did not not like it, but had no other choice. Was adopted by a gang of thieves who would flee here after big coups for some time. One time, Lothé's gang found walls or unopenable steel doors where exits should be. Lothé's friends said we were sealed off. With time, Lothé's friends died of old age. Lothé now survives by catching and eating food rats, evading dog rats, and bribing fungi with bones." Lothé points to a small pile of rat bones nearby. By now, you can clearly tell that Lothé is an elf.
