[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

The cleric gives Kane an affectionate punch in the arm. Its fine Kane. It seems ever since we've gotten here the warlock has been really grumpy. He must have a lot of things going on in his mind. She gives Kane a wink and than prepares for battle.

"I've had some experience fighting with him before. He's grumpy by default." smiles the deva. Cyr settles down.

"Martelai, would you draw your runes to give us, well me, some insight into the fight?"

Creature's dance and song is slowing down and obviously exhausted, she stops: "Call has been heard and The Land has answered. Legends tell that when The Champion fought The Dragon, monster's blood rained upon the land and where it fell it poisoned soil and killed life. And what it touched it turned into monsters, mockeries of life they once were. And when The Dragon finally crashed from the skies, its cursed blood formed lake of liquid death that seeped into the land, reaching deep below where still the lake of cursed blood remains. You have awoken piece of The Dragon Champion - it is no doing of my own, for I could not invoke it...". With obvious fear and disgust on her face she eyes Martelai: "What are you? What did you bring to this place? Slay it Champion, slay it and cast it back into darkness from which it comes!"
Feint tremor can be felt in the groundand stench of rot and death suddenly becomes stronger. Looking around reveals that pool of pure water by ancient willow tree is bubbling and quickly changing color to murky gray - it seems to be source of increased odor of death.
GM: Technically combat has not started yet, but I will let everyone position themselves on the grid, and use few round to do whatever they want.

Martelai studies the glade as the things start to change.

"I am what I am, Lady, and I brought only The Shard. It is you who project your expectations on me and your narrow focus on what is right limits your understanding. If less fey were into this "Game" then one of you would seize The Shard and hold it hidden from mortals, then you would have some peace. This way, mortals will come, each stronger and worse then those before until you're left with pieces of what you had."

Turning to the group
"We should push it out into the forest as soon as we're able. Or we should start the dance in the forest so it has to come to us through the bushes and trees. Cyr, any use of those stones except as cover?"

He walks toward one of the stones and puts it between himself and the bubbling pool.
OOC: MadAzolin, initiative? Also, if we trigger things that last for the encounter now, would they still be operational when the encounter start "technically"
MetaVoid, roll your Fate :), it affect next three non-trivial rolls of attack, skill or save

"There is some lingering magic of protection and summoning. I believe we just witnessed the summoning. Now let's see if I can activate the protection."

He dives into his memory, trying to dredge up needed knowledge and then starts speaking in his archaic elven, gesturing and walking around.

OOC: MadAzolin, the rolls are what I think appropriate, feel free to roll others as needed
History; Nature (1d20+15=29, 1d20+10=26)
Also, where is the dryad?

Neurotic, remind me what are your advance rolls used for? I remember attacks and skill, are initiative and saves valid? Do I get the choice of use or first rolls needed are drawn from your pool?

EDIT: Here they are, if there is time for your ritual
Martelai horoscope (1d20=12, 1d20=10, 1d20=10)

Vermitrax studies the runes for a moment, and using his arcane expertise he tries to harness the protection magic to work on him and his allies. After he's done, he retreats backwards. "To arms!"

Arcane: 32

MetaVoid: [sblock="skills"] Linking himself to primal magic of this place, Cyr can sense impending darkness.
Lingering magic within standing stones is indeed responding to his efforts, but it will take some serious concentration and effort to activate it.
GM: Translated: it takes proper skill challenge to activate protective magic, details:
- to try and activate standing stone requires standard action (touch range required) and success vs very hard nature, arcana or history;
using up healing surge during it (free action) adds +10 to roll
- different standing stones can be activated by different characters
- while you are not sure of effect, the more of those are active, the better :)

[/sblock]

OOC: Neurotic: no initiative needed, party acts first - you have enough time to prepare for whatever is coming MetaVoid: put dryad on the grid, not like she will be of any use, but well... :) everyone:
Encounter has technicall started, therefore all 'until end of encounter' abilities will last until end of encounter
or until 5 minutes pass (which pretty much never happens, so no need to worry about it). Therefore
you are free to buff-up, cast your zones, auras or whatever lasting until end of encounter, no need to worry
about those deactivating.

OOC: And we can activate the pillars in this time too? How hard is very hard? Cyr studied them from the start, shouldn't he have some idea (in particular, if you give us target number we don't have to wait for your feedback before stating we're moving toward the next one.

And just to clarify: we can spend the surge AFTER we see the roll to add 10 to it?

"Everyone, we can activate these pillars...the magic is weak and it may require some extra effort, but the more stones we activate better for us. Vermitrax is on good track...I'll take this one. Use either your link with this place and your place in the nature or call upon your arcane reserves. I will try to remember exact gestures and wording of the creators of this circle."

OOC: You can activate pillars in this time too, keep in mind you might not
have whole lot of time (all of you would say you have round or two before hell breaks loose.
By Cyr's measurement, he would have something like 50-50 chance to do it, so Very hard roll
is around DC 30.
As for spending healing surge, you have to decide before you roll (would be too easy otherwise, right? :) )
Also Cyr would tell that nothing catastrophic is going to happen if you fail (unless you do something extremely dumb), but
it is quite likely that entire thing might power down if you meddle too much with it with no success.
