[Adventure] The Paper Chase (Judge: renau1g)

"Ever hear of someone.. or something.. coming out of there?"

Unless the answer is evasive or fascinating, Serris is heading to the Ogre room after that and gestures for others to follow.
After he leaves the Harpy's room, he says quietly "No reason to kill that one, it's no more a menace than anyone around here. We'll see about the Ogre."
He heads into the other room then.

The harpy gives a small shrug. "Sometimes you do hear of people holing up in there. I mean, messed up people - cultists, deviants, crazies, the kinda people who don't pass for normal even in Khyber's Gate. And maybe now and then they've even been seen outside after, but if there was a jot of sense in their heads before they went in, there sure isn't after they come out. And all that's just rumours anyway, can't say any of it's reliable."

[sblock=OOC]Just a note in case people were confused - what the harpy told you about the temple's location seems to clash with what your research turned up, which had pointed you beneath this very inn. The Harpy doesn't seem to be lying, but there's definitely a contradiction here.[/sblock]

Upon being roused from his stupour, the Ogre responds to his plight with much less equanimity than did his Harpy companion. After a brief initial moment of confusion bares his tusks in a low growl of frustrated rage, glaring venomously around at his subduers. "YOU!" he barks.

"You come on Daask turf, you are having NO RESPECT, you are picking FIGHT. I am TELLING you, kiddies, you are making BIG TROUBLE for yourself! HAHAHAHAHA! You are DEAD! DEAD DEAD DEAD and you too STUPID to know it! Heeeehhhh. Let me free, and maybe I put in nice word for you, yes? Maybe Daask let you go crawling back where you came from and not squish you like little bugs, yes?"

[sblock=Insight DC 12]The ogre is bluffing, rather poorly. He might have an affiliation with these Daask people, but it's highly doubtful whether he commands any actual respect or wields any influence with them.[/sblock]
[sblock=Streetwise DC 15]The Daask gang is a criminal organisation based in Sharn's depths. There are many goblinoids and monstrous races in their ranks, and rumours persist of connections with Droaam.[/sblock]

At the ogre's words, Baracus moves forward and punches the creature in the stomach, grabbing a hairful of his matty, gross hair and pulling his head up. "Listen here scum, I ain't got no problem cutting your throat and puting your body somewhere the watch won't find you, so quit wasting our time and answer the questions all truthy like ok?" Baracus hisses

"You must be confusing me with someone who believes you. Even if you do know of the Daasks, they don't care about you. And once they find out that you talked to us, you're dead. And trust me. Everyone out in the bar is going to know that you told us everything you know if you refuse to respect us. Tell me what you know, I walk out of here complaining that you wouldn't talk. Don't tell me anything, fine. I walk out of here bragging about how I got you to talk. Guess which way works best for you?" Grys says conversationally.

Note: Grys isn't bluffing. He doesn't have to.

Serris grins upon hearing the Ogre. "If it makes you feel any better, I'll tell them you put up a good fight. Could even fake some bruising... Of course we all need to reach the end of the conversation for that to matter. So why don't we start with some simple questions."
He squats against the wall opposite the Ogre, spear point up. "A group was down here a while back, looking for ruins. They spent a lot of time in this pleasant little establishment. Do you remember them?"

[sblock=buffs]+2 to Diplomacy and Intimidation for everyone but me, yay[/sblock]

"I'll stay for a bit. Don't be too hard on the slave...giant, I meant giant."

After his companions go he turns to the harpy
"We didn't want this fight. We just need to find the missing group and the temple. Whether it's here or there makes no difference."

He removes the noose
"Here, would you please wait for a moment until they finish with your companion in case they have more questions?"
Orsik sketches a rune in the air and bruises dissapear from the harpy
"Don't hold this agaist us, it's just business. My mother had a harpy friend and we always got along just fine."

After few seconds to gauge her reactions (and assuming she doesn't run out immediately)
"While we wait, I am Orsik the Small. What's your name?"
Again after suitable pause
"Is there anything strange going on in THIS tavern? Such as would be expected if there is HIDDEN temple under this very building? You know, each night at exact midnight all candles are snuffled or some such nonsense?"
