Adventures of Astral Pwka: Evil Twins

So last night (11 pm) on the way home (a 14 mile drive) from work, my car loses power. Lights go out, all gages die on my dashboard, but the car keeps running. Over the course of getting home, I had to get out and wiggle the battery wires to get power back. This happened three times. Finally, as I entered my home town, I lost all power, but made it into the Subway at the edge of town. I then walked the last mile to my house, and got home around midnight.

So then I'm sitting there watching my LotR dvd (the Fellowship), and at 1:30 am, a cop arrives at my door, and asks to come in. I said yes. He asked if I was Garth, I said yes, and then he asked where my car was. I said at Subway. Why? Because it died. Why? Battery issues. Where was I coming from? Twin Falls. Why? I got off work. When? At 11.

So then I ask... Is my car okay to be at Subway? He says no problem. But! Around 11 pm, there was a robbery in Twin Falls, with someone driving a similar car, and matching my physical description.

I didn't carpool with anyone, etc... and the cop kept going on about there being too many coincidences. But he eventually left, and I got to go to bed.

Hopefully this is the end of the story. :)

Hong... you may be onto something there...

Here's an update... The police never called my place of employment. Nothing was on the news about any robbery or in the paper...

Could it be that at 1:30 am cops get really bored and make up stories to entertain themselves, to see how people react in the middle of the night when accused of felonous activities???? What a great job!!!! :D

If it was just one cop, they probably knew it was nothing and were just following up stray leads.

Sometime around 1980 or so, I was in a car with my best friend on the local inerstate. We go by one of the spots where troopers hide and sure enough one pulls out behind us. But he doesn't pull us over, he just hangs out behind us for about ten miles. Then, suddenly two more trooper cars show up and pull us over. All three get out of their cars, but only one approaches us and asks for license and registration. He takes it back to his vehicle and comes back a couple of minutes later and says OK and turns to leave. My buddy asks what happened and the trooper says they recveived notice of a bank robbery about 90 miles away and the only description they had was two guys in a green car with a noisy muffler. That was our excitement for the day! My buddy had been thinking about taking the last exit before we were pulled over just to see if he could get rid of the trooper that was following us. Glad we didn't!

Anyway, these things happen. If it was just one cop, I don't think they seriously considered you a crime suspect. At least you got a cool story out of it. And maybe even a shadowy conspiracy!
