[AEG] L5R Encyclopedia and more

Dark Psion

First Post
Any update on the L5R Encyclopedia? I can't find it listed anywhere for pre-order or even coming soon except for AEG's site.

Got Secrets of the Scorpion yesterday and it looks very good. What is the schedule for other Secrets books?

Wasn't there a book on Nemuranai planned before the D20 conversion and is it going to be eventually released? (We had a very long wait for the secrets books you know ;) )

I picked up the Encyclopedia yesterday (the 18th), and it is a very nice looking book. It has a lot of history of the (card) game, and the various sets prior to the gold legal stuff. It also has notes listed for a fair number of cards in the gold era. I like it.

From the AEG website:

SotCrab - June
SotCrane - August
SotUnicorn - October
SotDragon - December

I haven't seen anything else listed as coming soon.

Hope this helps,

Lee

I'm wondering what's in the works outside of the Secrets of the Clans series. They've got releases for the rest of the clans, but here are my guesses:
-Shadowlands - I've loved their 3 Shadowlands books so far, so they'll almost definately be coming out with a d20 book on it. Prob similar to the Way of the Samurai, Ninja, etc.
-Way of the Monk - been alot of other d20 books on monks, but nothing strictly Rokugani.
-Secrets of Nezumi/Naga - The Naga are largely asleep now, but the Nezumi are still running strong. I wouldn't mind a d20 book w/ lots of Nezumi feats, PrC's, etc. What I REALLY want is Nezumi pre-history. Naga are probably less likely IMHO.
-Maybe some dual-stat adventures?
-Nemuranai were pretty well covered in Magic of Rokugan IMHO, so I don't think they'd need a whole sourcebook on it.
-Burning Sands. If they do it, they'd have to spin it into its own game. I know the L5R crowd whines ALOT about how AEG shouldn't waste its time, and I've seen alot of elitist bickering over this one. I'd LOVE to see it, but sadly will probably have to wait for a really really good fan made campaign.
-Maybe a book of NPC's? I've never really liked them, with the exception of Planescape's "Uncaged: Faces of Sigil."
-City books? Or a d20 conversion of "City of Lies"?
-Way of the Ronin. A possiblity, Way of the Wolf was actually pretty interesting, but covered the subj in much more of a Rokugani culture "this is how ronin are REALLY perceived" kind of way. Not alot of game mechanics. Unlikely, but if they follow their pattern of clan splatbooks...

The one book I would like to see is
The Way of the Gaijin

Not only the Burning Sands, but the invaders from the battle of the White Stag, the strange people of the Ivory Kingdoms and the pale, light haired warriors of the north.

Hello!

The post-Secrets release schedule is currently being determined. For now, Crab and Crane are in the pipe, we turn in text on Unicorn in a few weeks, and we have Secrets of the Dragon and Secrets of the Shadowlands following that. After that.... you'll just have to wait and see. I will say, however, that if you have ideas for products you feel there is a demand for, please feel free to email me or someone else at the office. We're always open to fan suggestions.

So what is the deal with this Bloodspeakers book? You guys are farming out the adventures now, or is this a whole sourcebook on Maho?
Nice to hear about a Secrets of the Shadowlands... but like I said, with 3 sourcebooks on it already, and with it being such a cool damn part of the campaign world, it was to be expected.
Can you at least tell us if there is at least SOME interest at AEG for doing Legend of the Burning Sands? I've noticed a big split in who wants it and who doesn't... seems like the old school L5R players are afraid it will dilute the setting (and take resources away working on L5R book), but since most of these are the same people that complain about the books being dual-stat (because you could undoubtably cram SOOO much more info in there, and please mind the sarcasm), I don't find alot of creedence with their arguments. I mean, you guys are currently doing, what, 5 or 6 game lines now?
And again, there is another core group of us, (esp. the d20 fans) who REAAAALY want to see something about the Burning Sands in print. You guys keep giving us these tantalizing little tidbits (the Ashalan, Yobanjin, etc.) about the world beyond Rokugan. I want to know stuff like what is on the other side of the Shadowlands... are there any cultures over there? Are they fighting it too?
Even if you guys just came out with a Rokugan-style hardback detailing everything, we'd love it. Secrets of the Scorpion just made the craving worse... and I expect Secrets of the Unicorn is going to drop even MORE clues about Burning Sands. I think the time is ripe for you guys and Burning Sands. L5R dual-stat books are selling well according to most store owners I talk to. Your fan base has swelled with those of us that got carried in with d20. And nobody has a good Arabian styled campaign world out now (and knowing WotC, they'll sit on Al-Qadim for close to a decade before resurrecting it).
Also, are you guys planning to expand the Nezumi in the Secrets of the Shadowlands, or are you thinking of giving them their own dual-stat book? I'm curious as to what Nezumi name magic would look like in d20 terms.
And any plans for a Way of the Monk/d20 version of Way of Shinsei?

Old School L5R gamer

I can only close ranks with Cernunnos about a setting book for Legend of the Burning Sands, even though I'm an "old school L5R gamer". I desperately want to know what the world beyond the Shadowlands looks like...I'm sure it can only rock, and will bring more angles and adventures to our beloved game. So, how are the chances for a Burning Sands book?

I'd like to see two hardcovers myself.

Shadowlands: Lot of material here from previous editions. Heck, I've got the original hardcover and the second sourcebook and understand that there's more material out now. A nice compilation of that stuff updated would be fantastic.

Beyond Rogukan: Something for those who want to follow the trail of the Unicorn and investigate the Burning Sands or the Ivory Kingdoms. Make one hardcover out of it and let the players run wild. If sales are strong, support it. Look what happened with Kindred of the East and Vampire. Perhaps the same thing will happen with their new setting? Don't let them be the only ones.

I'm with Joe G Kushner on this one, the two books he described are exactly what I'd like to see.

I too, was brought back into the fold because of the D20 material. So far it's been a nice ride. I hope it continues. I am also the only person I know who happens to have a complete collection of Burning Sands cards. The setting described in the cards is beautiful and screams for an RPG supplement.

Ignore the naysayers. LBS is likely to draw even more people if marketed as a new setting for D20.
