Against the Cult of the Reptile Gods -- FREE?

Don't get your hopes up.

The Alumni articles have always been history articles about a particular element (the knight, Dark Sun, etc) and found in Dragon (not Dungeon). The likelihood of the Alumni article having a 4e conversion is pretty slim.
True, although Alumni articles usually pertain to some recently released bit of content, either in a book or in an article.

It could be relevant to the Temple of the Radiant Morn adventure this month - perhaps the strange, "peaceful" church is run by Zehir's agents. (although, admittedly, this doesn't have the fun rooting out of cultists that N1 had)

EDIT: Well, I notice that the Adventure Hook article I linked to says PCs "have the opportunity to foil an archdevil's secret cult." So it probably has nothing to do with Zehir or N1. :)

Typically the "Free:" only refers to the Alumni articles not being behind the pay wall. But maybe the skeptic in me is wrong. It's be cool if it was.

It could be an olive branch to let their customers know the flubbed with the DDI updates, so here, take a classic adventure and reskinned for 4e free of charge, and come back next month with DDI and you can get the reskinned U1 - Saltmarsh rehash (or somesuch)

I'd recommend against pinning your hopes on this - the Alumni articles, as others have noted, have exclusively just been a walk back through the history of the game. It might include a few small elements updated to 4E, say some stat blocks or NPCs or the like, or an announcement of an upcoming related project, but I'd be incredibly surprised if it included a full free conversion of the adventure.

One can certainly hope for it, just don't be too disappointed if it doesn't happen. :)

Note the specific description of the article: "Our archivist looks back fondly at the first adventure in the N (novice) series, from 1982."

For myself, I do like seeing these articles, since they can help give some insight into how the game developed, and help provide some context for the various references into material from the earlier days of the game.

Oh my hopes aren't high, don't worry about me :)

And seeing your note I think it more doubtful (but perhaps what they are working on for the spring mailing or something).

NOOOOO!

Ones again: the paying user can have the stuff on 5 of his/her computers.
The contract doesn't allow sharing. Do as you want in your campaign, but don't advertise illegal stuff.

Didnt knwo that - uninstalled and deleted. I don't need it as DM. I'll tell the one player who's house doesn't have a legal copy to do the same.

Cheers!

Maybe something changed or I'm remembering wrong, but I could have sworn when the tools were being released they specifically said that you could. Their example was the DM has the subscription and all of his players update based on his. Maybe is was meant to be for the virtual game table. But I could have sworn it included the character builder. It was a while ago.

As has been mentioned in other threads WOTC themselves have mentioned that you can do this. Its a little naive to think that the law is the be and end all of everything.

OK so if that's true now I need to get one of my players to come reinstall and update me :(

Does anyone have an official link confirming either assertion?!?

The user agreement says its for a single person only.

terms of use are here The license is non-transferable.

All that said, its much more likely that WotC just cares about widespread sharing than a group sharing a single account. As long as you stay within the 5 per month update rule, they probably won't care that much.

It kind of reminds me of those houses that put a bowl of candy out on halloween with a sign that reads- please take only one piece!

No one is really watching, you're kind of a jerkwad if you take the whole bowl, but still... No one is watching so you probably won't get in trouble, and... CANDY! :D
