Its not something that gets by at the more serious universities, though (not saying better, because there's little evidence that the so-called "top" colleges are actually better, but I think I can call them "more serious" about themselves without offending)
UT-Dallas is supposedly one of the top 5 or 10 CS universities in the nation. Or something. Not being a CS major, I forget the numbers in relation to CS. I know their Chess team trades off between #1 and #2.

If you're wondering how my answer came out at the same time as your question, without quoting it, its because I knew you would ask and was already working on it ;)

I also left out a bunch of good sources like the Mabinogion because of quibbles with its date. Either way, it is centuries before Mallory though.

As I said, I didn't say better. I said more serious.

Judging from the dates of the others, I'm sure it is well before Mallory. Need to buy more books... need money... need time...

Then I have no clue what you mean. They're serious, but gaming is a part of the industry too. And, from what I hear, much more difficult than the vast majority of other programming fields.

Hm, interesting. I wonder what I read that told me Mallory was the first.
To quote Family Guy: "Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't...nothing?" :p

The sad thing is that Mallory wasn't even the first to write what was basically his version of the story. The story changed dramatically with almost every new author, but Mallory was one of the only ones who didn't change it. He just copied directly out of the Vulgate Cycle :D

Funny how the crazy rapist gets the credit nowadays

I seem to recall a couple different sources, but maybe it was in conversation and the other person just didn't know better. Or maybe he was referring to something else an dI was confused.

Isn't that how it goes, though? Rapists get all the credit.

That strangely reminds me of a comment I made in my Arthurian Literature class that cracked the whole class and the prof up. We were talking about Elaine and Lancelot, and we were comparing what Elaine did in disguising as Guinevere as an effective rape. So I said "Of course, because rape is a great way to show that special someone that you really care!" It was funny at the time...
