Gotta disagree hard on that one.

I've already ripped at least three really excellent character portraits from this thread (thanks, guys!) and maybe a dozen others I can use as setting illustrations, deity portraits, nd so forth.

That's a far better batting average than I ever achieve wandering around in google looking for such images.

Looking for images in google used to be easy and fun, before it was flooded with this slop. Every picture in this thread either doesn't hold to any but surface-level scrutiny or emenates uncanny valley.

Alot of it isnt any worse than digital art in general. Better than some.

Until you look for more than few seconds or more carefully and see mistakes a real artist would not make.

Is that Knight in your profile picture not AI generated? I had assumed it was.

Either way, I am not a fan of AI in general, but I find the picture programs have their (limited) uses for quickly-generated character and monster pics. I would HATE for humans to lose work over it, though!

I also paid my own money, for a vanity project for some Shadowdark content I created, to commission an artist, that is out there for free now.

I thought so. I was sure that I remembered your posts. You're like me then - enjoy the thing for a lark, but concerned about the overall impact on skilled professionals.

(Mostly, in my case, because I don't trust those with the money to not want to use it to cut others out from their reasonable share).

Yeah, I think we are in deep, too. I left it vague in case anyone thinks that it counts as political. I don't agree that it does, but I have been wrong about that before.
