Dragonhelm, welcome to the EN boards! :)

I'm sure that WotC is doing something with the project. You can't be the ones to publish a book and do nothing. However, based on what you said, I still have some questions.

Who is doing the majority of the work on the DLCS? As far as I understand, the answer is Sovereign Press.

Who will receive the majority (if not all) of the revenue on selling copies of the DLCS? As far as I understand, the answer is WotC.

My last question is, while this is doubtlessly a cooperative effort, did Sovereign Press have a choice on that? They're an accomplished publishing company, and could have done this themselves, a decision which would have been optimal for Sovereign, since then they would have received the majority of the revenue on sold copies of the DLCS, while only paying WotC a small licensing fee, and WotC would not have had to involve themselves with the book at all.

It just seems like WotC strong-armed themselves into a position where they did a small portion of the work, and are taking a large portion of the proceeds, and on the best-selling book in the new DL campaign line no less. It is a cooperative effort, but the cooperation seems to have been somewhat unnecessary and forced. Irregardless, I look forward to the new DLCS.

Am I wrong in any of the above inquiries? If so, please let me know. Thanks for your input thus far!

Hey, thanks! I stop by on occasion. :)

While I am not 100% privy to the dealings between Sov. Press and WotC, it is probably true that WotC is pulling in a fair share of the profits while Sov. Press is seeing little to none.

However, you must also consider that Sov. Press will be pulling in a continual profit on DL gaming products. If the DLCS is as successful as I hope it will be, then you'll see fans of DL gaming, DL novels, and D&D all picking up DL products.

Plus, Sov. Press will have a greater hand in shaping Dragonlance, and will be coordinating with WotC's novel dept. While they may not reap all the rewards of the DLCS, they will reap other rewards down the road.

I'm not really privy to the dealings WotC has had with Sov. Press on the DLCS, the license, etc. I imagine, though, that many decisions were made on a business level as well as a creative level.

Personally, I would rather focus on the outcome of their business dealings, rather than the dealings themselves.

We're going to continue to see a sucessful novel line, and one that is taking a new direction this year in the aftermath of the War of Souls.

We're seeing the return of Dragonlance gaming, as well as seeing Dragonlance updated to the d20 rules system. Dragonlance gaming is in very capable hands right now, and is being done by people who love the setting.

Dragonlance is back with a vengeance. Grab your hoopaks. The portal to adventure awaits!

Take that Jaerdaph. :p

I know, I guessed all that, and mentioned it a few posts back. Its just the initial start-up hit in cash that bothered me, since that remains the biggest obstacle to seeing other great discontinued world brought back.

Guess I can't help but look to the why's of the decisions that were made. :o

I look forward to it. Dragonlance is a great setting, and I plan on greatly enjoying its return to D&D. :)

Very well, shall we duel to the death at dawn then? Pistols? Rapiers? paint balloons? :p

The point is at rest as far as I'm concerned. I feel properly vindicated by what Dragonhelm said, and that's that.

Btw, you misspelled my name. It's Alzrius. A lot of people seem to have trouble with that for some reason. *shrugs*

yes...well..... thanks

Thanks to those who posted links and voiced support for a d20 Arabian-style setting. The most promising spot I have found so far is ArabianAdventures , which seems to be a fansite out of the UK. Maybe they can get the same sort of break that the Nyambe folks did (I like netbooks just fine but I love hardcopy).

Oh, yeah, that would be the original topic...

Put me down for a d20 Al_Qadim as well. And d20 Dark*Matter too.

:D

I mean let's put the conversation behind us and move on. But if you want to go 10 rounds, I welcome the challenge.
