Spoilers Alien: Earth Spoiler Thread

And naming him Boy Kavalier isn't subtle at all ...

It's not subtle, but am I the only one who wants him to break out one day in song?

Hybrid, Hybrid, Hybrid, Hybrid
Synths, Cyborgs, I've got Hybrids
Combine a synth with terminal kids
I rule this day
Quickness, strength, emotions, dress up
It's okay if I don't want that
Supercomputer or standard hybrid
Any hybrid my way

I rule, I'm seizin' the day
I'm BK, I have it my way
I rule!

Yeah, I'm probably the only one. And now I want a whopper.

My thoughts exactly. Its a terrible idea, but seems perfectly in character for the Boy Kavalier we have been shown so far.
Although even on a more tactical side, this is the perfect field test opportunity to see how they will react physically, emotionally, mentally, and socially. When he authorized the mission, they were going out for search-and-rescue. Turns out there was more to it (and that point it was way to exciting for him to call them back!) but at the time they took off, the danger was relatively low.

…ok fine, it was still super dangerous but since nobody gives a lick about safety protocols in any of the Alien movies - like ever - it was not a more reckless move than the average :)

Do they have some contractual obligation to involve him? I'm not really clear on who owns what with the franchise.

Ridley Scott doesn't have any of the IP rights to the Alien (or Bladerunner ...) franchise.

However, the reason he is being given an EP credit is ... (informed speculation here) .... just good business. If you're Fox (Disney) and you want to make another Alien entry, you want to make sure you don't have Scott badmouthing anything about it.

An EP credit makes sure that he stays "part of the family," and doesn't provide any negative press.

ETA- @Whizbang Dustyboots said the same thing at the same time.

I don't think they do, but they know A) a lot of fans care what he thinks and B) he will definitely say, unless they give him a reason to shush.
I see. Personally I really wouldn't care too much about his opinion. Alien is a masterpiece. Prometheus and Covenant? Not so much. Aliens, OTOH, is a great movie, despite what Scott might think about Alien queens.

Yeah, I think he's categorically wrong about a lot of this stuff. If Dan O'Bannon was still alive (died in 2018), I'd give his opinion more weight than Scott, personally. But the Alien franchise is its own beastie at this point, beyond any one person's control. (Well, there's probably an anonymous brand manager who steers all this stuff, but I don't know we've ever been told his name.)
