OK, I'll bite. New TV show next year.

Assuming it isn't, as it claims, "only on Hulu". Which seems unlikely.

Fortunately in the UK, as Hulu doesn't exist, most of what they have actually appears on Disney+ (Disney wholly owns Hulu), usually a few weeks after it was on Hulu in the US (but occasionally at the same time), so we should be okay. This definitely includes at least some "Only on Hulu" shows.

I'm hoping it's good but the fact that it's a prequel to Alien has me a bit concerned. As the trailer says, this takes place in 2120, and Alien in 2122, and Aliens in 2179, and it's pretty clear that on the latter two dates, there's no general awareness of Xenomorphs, which means that unless this is some kind of alternate universe, there's a really hard limit to what can even happen in this show. Especially as Weyland-Yutani's board as a whole didn't even seem to know about or believe in Xenomorphs (even if Burke clearly did) in 2179 (i.e. the start of Aliens).

But still, one hopes it is good. At least Ridley Scott isn't creatively involved (so I am told, I see he is an EP but maybe that's just so he gets $$$) and Timothy Olyphant is! Also the showrunner is the Legion showrunner, and that was excellent.

So not ‘only on Hulu’ then. Good.

2120 may be misleading. It could be a lead up to the events of Alien and Aliens...or...it could be a switcheroo and we finally get to see the aftermath of Alien Ressurrection.

Ah, yes, which everyone was...clamouring for?
I think most people forgot about it, TBH.

I don't think we've ever seen an entire world in the process of being devoured (okay, Tyranid reference, but Aliens are sort of like Tyranids if you think about it). We saw the aftermath of a colony in Aliens, but it could be interesting to see the entire thing in the process.

Of course, I was one of the few that actually really enjoyed Alien Ressurection, so, there's that too.

The aliens consume Earth, but by the time Ripley gets back from cryosleep Slartibartfast has built a new one.

Yup, it's the Alien/Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy crossover everyone has been clamouring for!
That is 100% a crossover that could and maybe would have happened were Douglas Adams not present to get in the way of the relevant metaphorical bulldozer at basically any time between 1992 and 2003, thank god he was still with us for most of it. They crossed over Alien with pretty much everything/everyone else!

I doubt it though. By putting the date as basically the only salient information in the teaser, they're making it important and drawing attention to it. To then abandon it wouldn't make much sense and would likely wind people up.

I hope the latest faux-Ripley is good - Sydney Chandler - as she seems to be the lead. She hasn't been in much, and nothing I've seen. She's Kyle Chandler's daughter, you may have seen him as the coach from Friday Night Lights or the lead in the somewhat forgettable but not bad Netflix drama Bloodline.
